What size semi slicks do you use ???

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hey all, just doing a bit of research into what sizes of semi slicks people are using.

I'm guessing the big one for you guys is 215/45/17 and maybe some 16" sizes but am keen to hear what you have to say.

Basicly what I am after is simple....three bits of info like so

Tyre size

Car (be model specific if you can/wish)

Brand/breed of tyre

I dont want to hear about street tyres, strictly road legal semi slicks.

Cheers in advance

Greg

205/40/17 toyo R888, on a GC8, work from cold, warm up fast, work better when hot. I've used these with absolute confidence on dodgy hillclimbs, sprints, on the track... in dry hot conditions and freezing and wet conditions. last a lot longer than most semi slicks for

road use if you want.

Also have some kumho v710 235/40/17. Work when hot, but very hard to get heat into

with a light car on short distances. Don't work when cold at all, too soft for road use. Haven't tried them on the track, but suspect they will be very good.

1996 gc8 running 205/50/15 r888 a few good reasons smaller diameter , lighter , cheaper ........... to be honnest mostly the cheaper paid $300 for six second hand with 3plus mm tread , downside is wont clear big brakes

+1, I have the same tyres. Were damn good for my current driving skills.

215/45R17 Potenza RE-11 on an N/A GC8. Nothing flash, but will be testing them out on the track in 2 weeks. Can't imagine coming close to out-driving them this early on in the piece :P

Sure you can, just turn full lock at the end of the straight before braking.

::)

What about the RE55S? They AREN'T road legal. ::)

Yes they are. They are DOT rated and have 17% grooves.

Guess it depends who you ask - I'd seen "Not for street use" in several places including the Potenza brochure.

But I digress. If people have run them legally on the street with no trouble, then that's that isn't it? ;D

As per Al, BS RE55s is a race tyre that is DOT rated, therefore road legal.

Several manufacturers fit DOT-rated semis to their best road cars, eg, Lotus use Advan A048, Renaultsport- Toyo R888, Porsche- Michelin Pilot Cup, Ferrari- Pirelli P-Zero Corsa etc.

The "not for street use" warning usually means they are unsuitable for daily driving where a DOT semi may not match street tyres for factors like durability or cold/wet weather performance.

So the gist of it is, they are able to be snuck onto the road if they need to be, but it's REALLY not recommended?

It means, don't use them if you are a muppet.

Probably also means don't use them if you don't want the cost of replacing them 3 times in the same space as a more durable performance tyre.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
