rotation tyres- new law??

My mate just went and got some new tyres, and the guys there told him that a new law is going through that means all cars will have to be wearing rotational tyres. True of false???

Is the only difference that roty's tread pattern means they can only displace water in one direction?? Thus must be put on the right way?

Rotational tyres must always be put on the right way, doesn't really affect me this law at all as all my tyres have been rotational and have always had to be fitted the right way. This really shouldn't affect anyone to much.

Unsure if it is true or false, but can't see any major issues with this one.

All tyres rotate.

If you mean tyres that are designed to go in one direction, the correct term is "directional" tyres.

AFAIK all *good* WOF places have always checked this.

When I bought my STi from Harbour City Lower Hutt (RIP) the front tyres were on backwards, post- new WOF.

Bollocks. No such rule. The majority of cars out there probably still run standard old radials anyway.

But yes, to get a WOF your directional tyres must be running in the correct rotation.

I had directionals front and non directionals rear for my last warrant passed ok. But they had a cry this time hen I only had one non and 3 directionals. Had to get another directional.

Yup, tyres on the same axle must be of the same type.

is there much of a difference between radials and directionals? In any aspect of the tyres job?

there is NO new law saying you must have directionals on all corners, only on the same axel, in the correct direction. this is to stop mismatching of the tyres charater, and make the car behave in a unpredictible/unsual manner

Radial relates to tyre construction.

Directionals are a variation of a radial tyre.

My partners parents own a new mini and have had 2 wofs with the current tires then went to get one last week and they failed in on the tire not throwing the water out the right way

I for one dont run directionals on my cars(dont need to/cant get them/dont see the reason for them )

and I can guarentee that i cant get them for my Landcruiser and still have some offroadabilty and onroad wearability(tractor tyres are directional ) he he he

heheheh you could always try to fit tractor tyres to your cruiser...

Haha what about guys that have vintage cars, there would be no directional tires for those. Its crap I would say.
