Na its the the pre-92? 2.4turbo models that are shite. They are also gutless.

The 3.0 V6 are the ones you want. (Your obviously talking about the older models?)

The question is though, why the fuck do you want a surf? They handle like arse.

Factory, they are balls offroad. Add a few mods and she'd be right.

Very high maintence though, being 4x4, diesel and turbo.

I will admit they are pretty mean for roadtrips though. Massive sunroofs. Great being able to wind the back window down in summer. And the interior makes it like driving a car.

avoid 2.4 diesel turbos.

avoid petrols as the gulp.

go for a 3.0 diesel turbo. Good luck finding one for under 7k. I looked around when i bought the bighorn and found them over priced.

I reckon you looking 6gs plus for a decent one.

You got hooked on 4wds after you saw my bighorn on mt hutt didnt ya????

Ok now I will tell u how it is as I DO KNOW TOYOTAS :)

Diesel the 1kzte engined ones are by far the best (ie 3 litre turbo) later models came with a topmount intecooler on them, earlier ones didnt both can be front mounted :) and more boost added BUT this same engine in the HIACE vans crack heads,SOOO we think it is a cooling issue in the vans, and I have heard of the surfs doing heads as well if thrashed (I am looking at u Bradley )

The petrol ones i have no idea on but I would say they is Hungry :( but u can get a TRD bolt on Supercharger kit for them :)

Earlier Diesels were gutless and came in either 2L (2.4 litre) or 3L (2.8 Litre) also the horrid 2LT (2.4 Litre turbo) which were renown for blowing heads/turbos and anything else they could get their hands on :(

What are u looking for it to do Brad as U may have other options....

Guest boostcut

i have seen a jap. import surf with an 1800cc 4 cylinder carburettor'd 3-sf engine from factory. it certainly wasn't a powerhouse but must have been reliable as the odo stopped working at 380kms

So wanting something to get me o the mountain cheap, dont really care its slow or not just a bit of room and decent on gas. After being down south for a week thinking something diesel such as surf...then can jack it up and put big tyreso nand run shit over ;) haha

might know of a surf for sale thats why i asked but not sure what motor etc it is got to find out when i get home tomorrow.

Why not look at bighorn (they are an Isuzu and they build trucks) essentially it uses truck parts for that thing, very durable...

pre 1990 are the better models. The later ones are aparently plagued with engine problems.

NEver heard of any of those dramas myself...

Considering that they use the same motor as the Rodeo and are highly rated for touring/off-road use I see no problems with them.

In fact at our office most of the utes are Rodeo's (most with over 300 000Km on the clock) and a couple of bighorns all in diesel.

The worst one we have is a petrol auto one... guzzle guzzle and gutless

to be honest i just got my bighorn cos i didnt wanna shell out all that much for a landcruiser and i thought the surfs were overpriced.

If i did it again id buy the old school 2.8 diesel model and jack it up with big mud tyres.

In saying that dude you went in mine the other day to hutt and its more than capable for a skifield blast.

for something the size of a small house its cheap to run too!

Heard the terranos get rusty in the chassis real bad? but havent had no experience.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
