For $6k you should be able to get a PAR dog engagement gearset - however you then have to pay for it to be installed, which isn't cheap. Plus a dogbox has to be driven very differently to a normal box, so there is a good chance of killing it slowly if not used properly.

Another option, see if your LSD is still ok, if so - buy a 2nd hand box and put it in that. Much cheaper than 6 speed or rebuilt box. However it depends how much money you want to spend and how long you want it to last...

I'll go out today and check what exactly is broken, and what is salvageable. I've been looking for second hand boxes aswell, but I don't know whether I need to get exactly that same one, or any old STI one. I know my RA has the short 1 and 2nd gears, but I think it also has a way different final drive thingie aswell.

Right, been there.

Here's the damage :

So, the story as it is so far. The selector fork is broken, probably as a result of all the bits flying around. And just second gear. Nothing else. Diff is fine etc.

But because the second gear is attached to the input shaft I have to get that whole bit.

So we're on the hunt for an input shaft I guess.

mm told you i thought a selector fork was broken.. they are easy enough to sort tho.

how are the synchros - i remember last time i was out with you it was quite crunchy in 3-4 or 4-5.

good news your diff is ok, and your other gears. this means you might just end up with a different ratio 2nd?

The crunching stopped after I redid the oil. He's going to try and find something with the same tooth pattern thingie ( got confused at this point )

The selector fork, the other guy said that would be easy enough to weld up. I didn't get a pic of it gazzy dammit.

Most interesting also, I was told that the Redline shockproof stuff was rubbish. It didn't have any bearing on this happening, but still.

same tooth pattern = the same ratio ;)

true - well ive seen that shock proof in other box'es more track orientated than mine.

personally i wouldnt be welding up a clutch fork, its not hard to find a straight replacement one. (a bent fork is what i had when i rebuilt mine, they need to be dead straight)

Ok, well, I dunno how I got so lucky with this car, but it has all come together nicely.

Full gearbox rebuilt with cracktested 1-5th STI RA gears, new bearings, all put together/labour for, well, less than a third of what the parts would be from overseas.

Once again, I've said it before, Al at MACBilt is fantastic.

oh yer - :D i forgot about your list.. doh.. more bits to go out and buy.

it will take time to procure the bits and put your box back together anyway.

we need to check your clutch then -

See if Al has a clutch allignment tool he might so kindly lend you. (its a cut off input shaft, a real simple tool).

  • 4 weeks later...

Right, my car is now in the midst of getting the gearbox put back in.

However, inspection has shown that yes, my clutch is poked.

My options are get it rebuilt, $585+freight and other stuff, new for $765.

Which all sounds expensive. Currently it is an Exedy HD one in there I think.

So what are other people using, and at what price ? Or does anyone have one ?? It's quite urgent, as I'm trying to get my car back for this weekend.

did you unbolt the clutch yourself and take it to Al to inspect?

Ask Al what state the pressure plate is in and whether it can be reused.

Aim to unbolt the flywheel and get this machined at the same time Chris. Tis easy to put the spigut bearing in if its off as well.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
