Sounds exactly like what happened to mine at a track day. Stuck in gear, wouldnt let it go. Mine got stuck in third though.

I replaced the box but only due to peices of 3rd gear doing massive damage to other gears.

I'm glad mine got stuck in first, otherwise I never would've made it home. What kind of gearbox did you have Johnnynz ?

+1 , 3rd got stuck in mine!! Ver 6 STI sedan.

If you end up replacing rather than rebuilding, i'd be keen on any salvagable parts as spares

5 Speed out of a v5 WRX. was a 4.444 final drive.

There's a guy in CHC who is a local reseller for PAR gearsets, then you wont break any more. But I think they cost around $1000 per gear from memory.

So 1-4th $4000, by the time you get them installed the price is on par with a second hand 6 speed.

Ok, update from Al this morning. Second gear has shredded itself to bits, and sent bits of metal everywhere in the gearbox and my special diff. Still not sure on the rebuild price as yet.

But wouldn't a five speed rebuilt with a PAR gearset actually be stronger than a stock six speed Stoffa? Or are there other inherent weaknesses in the fives?

hey, i have a v3/4 STI box in bits if you need anything, i dont have the transfer case, c/diff or rear housing but the rest is there, it has a munted 1st, second and third... but there may be other bits there you cud use......????

a stripped 2nd eh.. doh..

what were the state of the forks and synchros?

Not sure yet. I think he had to clean all the metal out first.

gutted when i had my synchros go they rebuilt it and then the cir-clip came off and went through my my freshly rebuild gearbox chipping some of my teeth in the process. resulting in another bill that i had to pay, hence never going back there.

Well, as it turns out, "nugga nugga stuck in first gear" = $6000 in parts alone for my gearbox.

Everything has been superseded apparently for my model.

Yeah maybe. It is an option. Or I could look at stronger 1st and 2nd gears for mine and get it rebuilt. He's investigating options at the moment. But I confess to being mighty surprised at that price.

I may go out there tomorrow to take pics.

I got them from treecrusher who had them in his v5 box & i consider them to be stronger as they are thicker & chunkier than the standard ones, in the pictures are std on top & aftermarket on the bottom
