WRX Diesel - Angry as !

well today was my first track day at hamptons and all went well till my heater core decided to turn my car into a sauna down the back straight . took it up to motorsprort services who simply bypassed the heater core - so all good ...then came the BIG F@CK UP , went and got fuel drove 10 meters and the car dies ..turn out the guy put diesel in my car !

Now my question is will this do any damage to ANY component ? as they did flush the system and gave me a full tank 98 ,but the scoobie she is smoking really bad . drove from hamptons back to the shore (about 70 Km ) would this have been enough to have cleaned everything ?

is there anything more i should do ?

Plus my engine light now comes on and goes off ... i pulled the codes but they look like old codes . Is there an easy way to clear the codes ?

Not really sure but I don't think it's terminal having diesel through the system as long as it didn't detonate and kill everything at the time. Might pay to also run an injector cleaner and upper engine cleaner through it?

i know what injector cleaner is but what is upper engine cleaner ?

Its a small can of foamy stuff that you buy from a Subaru dealership for ~$20 and fill the manifold with it, then let it sit for a bit, then run the engine and fill the neighbourhood with smoke while it burns out all the crap you've just dislodged and then leaves the intake and combustion chambers all nicely cleaned. Really good stuff.

ah thanks mate . will have to get some of that then ... as she smokes like a diesel now which is VERY ironic

also the CEL that comes on and goes off could this REMOTELY be related to this ? or is it just a coincidence ?

Upper engine cleaner works wonders ;D

Might pay to go to a mechanic first, you dont want to do o many kms and not get it checked or they wont pay out if the diesel has naffed the engine.

ok that is my question basically ..they said it will be "fine" _ (of course they would!) , but in real life can a motor be naffed by something like this ?

Ring the BP helpline or similar, they may help.

i put the dirty D in a petrol before doesnt harm it much will smoke alot for a bit but should come right try use minimal boost

I wouldnt drive it hard and it will be fine, just run it tills its almost empty and then put another tank of 98 in it.

the smoke is the same as putting 2 stroke oil in a non 2 stroke vehicle,diesel after all is an oil more than a volatile(petrol)

done that before, went to motocross inland from kaikoura, thought there would be a petrol station somewhere so didnt fill the terrano up before heading inland, turns out I was wrong, after a days riding I was glad I still had 10 litres of pre-mix made up when I ran outa gas on the way back to kaikoura! the old terrano blew a bit of blue smoke but was probably good for the old girl haha

just p11ses me off now that i have to spend money for something that is not my fault .

so current list of repair/replace/additives includes

injector cleaner

top engine cleaner

new fuel filter

.... STI replacement motor ... ;D

also the ecu is having a fun day throwing up codes ..hell i even think it is making up some new ones ;D

take receipts to BP and get them to fork out for it

i thought of that but i am sure they wont pay up without a fight ,or some stipulation i have to bring it back to the hamptons workshop . PLUS next time my car breaks at a trackday (and i am sure it will) i will need them to fix it ,so rather not sh1t where i have to eat in future . ;D

ah well will be taking my own spare fuel next time . it is called "learning " ;D

@ xsvpwr - well i went down to the "fuel depot" phoned them up , they sent the guy to unlock and get the generator started , and we then filled up ..... except the container that ALWAYS have 98 in it was last week filled with diesel for the contractors that is building the new pit complex .. and nobody was told .

Don't see how they can argue it, as they've admitted fault already by siphoning out your car and refilling it with the right stuff.

Wont do it any harm.The small amount thats mixed with the 98 will act as an upper cylinder lubricant.Dont thrash it till it stops smoking as the octane rating may be reduced a little and could lead to detonation.

stink to hear abt that bro... yea have been in a similar situation where wrong fuel was put in - altho was a mates bluebird nissan.. anyway, it smoked a while and few tanks later it was ok..

yea do the cleaners etc on the next tank u fill and perhaps an oil service as well while u at it..

just cruise and no boost as indicated by others...

in time it should get back to ok as long as the no boost thing is maintained say for the next tank or 2

NO BOOST !!!!! AAARRRGGGHHHHHH that is why i have my WRX ;D gonna be hell not doing it !

also who buys a good tankfull of 98 not to waste it on boosting :-P

would an octane boost additive help at all ?
