Best boost controller to stop spiking??

Just wondering what everybody's opinion is on electronic boost controllers. I want to get one to stop boost spiking not worried about adjusting it often would just leave it on one setting??

Some magazine (I think it was Super Street) did a test on boost controllers a long long time ago. I forget which. But they installed them on an SR20DET and measured the boost profile, how quickly boost ramped up, how well it was held, and any spiking. The best performing was the Blitz dual solenoid unit, from memory.

I'm running a Gizzmo ms ibc and doesn't spike but doesn't hold boost that great either but better than stock setup, I also have been told my vf30 is running out of puff though. If I was getting another I would go for a hks evc 4 or hks evc but are pricey items. my boost comes on harder and stronger and earlier to but I think they all do that.

I also use the greddy profec B, good little unit although a bit hard to tune if you don't know what the settings do, as there are a number of them. Have had it in 2 cars now, good performer.

I had a Greedy Profec B Spec 2 in my v7 and it was great, got rid of all the spike and held a nice 1.2bar, but yes was a total prick to tune. On the negative side of them, I have seen two fail one causing a total engine meltdown, both near new units.

im using a bleed valve as i dont have the spare coin for an ebc... i hate it. iv got it nicely set for one person in the car..... any variables i hit fuel cut. any extras in the car, high humidity, steep hills.... bleed valves are NASTY!!!!!!!!

I had a turbosmart one on my sti b4 the ebc and thought it was fine, my car was tuned to 1.5 bar with the bleed vavle and it was ok. I guess you need to make sure your car is setup before upping the boost in most cases.

yeah, old ecu untunable by opensource. and fluctuating boost.... keen to get an ebc. question... running an aftermarket controller, is there any gain in taking out the restrictor pill?

im not sure but i ditched my factory solinoid and pill setup and used new lines and a tee to stop my boost hitting to high before I got a remap on my ecu. Pappu on here reset my engine check light which comes on once you get rid of factory solinoid. My car was spiking very high on factory setup and we put in the tee to bring it down if you know what I mean.

replaced gfb tap for hks evc 4 and boost hit harder . controlled better. came on earlier. can adjust spike via the off set. also has scramble mode if you want to over boost then come down . . .

If you want to avoid the CEL when removing the factory boost solenoid, then don't remove it. Just leave it plugged in, just don't use it.

yeah that's what i do. But ver7 you can sensor delete and get rid of the code

Profec2 is good but damn hard to setup

Hks evc4 been the best I ever setup as it's easy as to setup and by god it holds boost steady- ask anyone who runs them

Royalsti ur gizmo brings boost really well if I remember from it dyno sheet

from what I've heard they run 5 Pound stock as they Are high compression turbo. . with exhaust and and intake etc and a good fuel setup and re tune you would see some sick numbers and big torque :-) twin Spinner :-)

afaik phase 1 xr6 has garret gt3040 and phase 2 when they went 6 speed manual got garret gt3540
