Rocker head cover leak?

Guest

Recommended Posts

A few questions.

1.What am looking at price wise to get it fixed?

2.Can anyone recommend a good mechanic to get this done?

My WRX has had this problem for years,i just carried on driving it seeing as the steam and smell didn't bother me.

I now have a baby on its way and think its best i finally get this fixed. ;D

Where subits used to be??...Is it just the one side?? Winger east tamaki quoted me $290 incl parts just for one side..Turned out it wasnt that hard to do myself...just get the kit from greenlane winger that guy in ET is a rip off quoted me $90 for the one kit and $75 at greenlane..btw that was for my 92 Legacy prices might vary not sure tho. Make sure you get some good sealant if you do decide to do it yourself

easy to do yourself.. Just the 6 nuts to get at.. Make sure you scrape and goo out of heads if was used in there last time.

Get the gasket kit, and make sure you get the 6 copper washers and rubber grommets as well... (and get GENUINE - its been proven other brands have different size grommets and washers) . Cost me about $90 for my Version 3 about a month a go.

You will need a range of 12mm (i think) spanners or ringer spanners/ rachets to get the nuts off.. The fully depends on your dexterity and proportional to the size of hands.

The only hard bit is getting the nuts undone.. Take your time and the whole job will take you about 40mins tops.

Proceedure

#1 Undo 6 bolts on the rocker cover.

#2 Remove Rocker cover and make sure entire gasket has peeled out with it.

#3 Remove and gasket goo that wsa in there (for good seal when putting it back in)

#4 put new gasket in the rocker cover that you have removed - will have guides on the cover... (you'll see when you open it up)

#5 put new grommet and washer + old bolts back in holes and do up firmly (but not over tight)

#6 your done.

clubsub to the rescue again! ive got exactly the same problem with my forester today. cleaned it up yesterday and left it overnight, result... oil spot on the drive so will source new gaskets this week to fix the problem. it looks alittle fiddly but nothing a bit of care and patience cant fix! :)

dont forget some gasket sealant/silicone stuff.

I used ABRO Grey 999 Gasket Maker which is "sensor safe" or so it says but can't say anything bad about it as its doing its job. Sometimes the old goo or silicone can be a pain..I'd take my time on cleaning the surfaces.

i have never used any type of sealer when replacing these seals/gaskets, why would they make a rubber seal with draw bult into it to have sealer applied to it?????. have never had any leaks after doing this fix when i have not used sealer.

also just took apart an engine that had had sealer used on the tappet cover seals, there was also alot of the same sealer in the bottom of the sump and half the oil pump pick up gauze was clogged with the same sealer.

obviously you dont go crazy with it but its wise to use around the front cam caps so the oil dosn't seep out the front.

Well i've often wondered about that... hrmmm.

When i did mine i used sealer with it, but not allot at all, and since the engine was on a stand, i could be very tidy with it (i am such a perfectionist). The job i got for $450 mere weeks before the engine blew though, was nasty as hell, sealer everywhere...

If you want it done right, do it yourself.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
