The G4 KnockLink Digital Warning is the only self calibrating, knock warning instrument on the market.

Drive with peace of mind, knowing that your engine is operating safely when using the G4 KnockLink. The KnockLink will show the beginning detonation long before you hear it.

The G4 KnockLink is designed for both street and race use.

"Ignition timing can make or break an engine and the effects of too much timing or a bad batch of gas can really ruin your day.

The team at Link has been hard at work with knock detection devices and off the back of the G4 KnockBlock comes the G4 KnockLink.

The G4 KnockLink is a stand alone Knock Detection warning light that is simple to install and actually works. I was surprised at how well the KnockLink worked either with factory sensors or noisy engines - the KnockLink picked up detonation that if left alone would have destroyed an engine.

The KnockLink is perfect as a warning device in all cars for that peace of mind as well as a handy tuning tool."

Typical causes of engine knock: Engine knock is one of the most damaging effects in any engine. Detonation (knock) can destroy your engine in seconds. You need to know when knock occurs, instantly. If knock does occur, the KnockLink warns the driver with a high intensity red flash.

Knock can happen when there is:

  • Poor fuel quality Incorrectly rated spark plugs Engine cooling problems Engine management problems

What is Knock?

Knock, also known as detonation or “pinging”, refers to the spontaneous combustion of an air/fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber.

The self calibrating, G4 KnockLink will flash to warn the driver of any knock present.

Knocking is induced by excessive pressure within the combustion chamber causing the air/fuel mixture to self detonate. Excessive combustion pressures can be a result of increased engine temperature, high boost pressure, elevated inlet air temperature, lean mixture or over advanced ignition timing.

Tuning for performance and efficiency brings an engine nearer to the point of detonation. To achieve the maximum output and efficiency, combustion pressures must be optimised to create the greatest force on the top of the piston (or side of rotor). This combustion pressure is controlled by ignition timing and mixture.

If the air/fuel charge detonates, a large pressure impulse is created vibrating the surrounding engine structure. The effects of the vibrations can cause cracked pistons, bent rods and damaged bearings. This gives the need to accurately detect engine knock.

The most common way of detecting engine knock is to bolt a piezoelectric vibration transducer (knock sensor) to the side of the engine block. The knock sensor behaves similarly to an audio microphone but converts vibrations rather than audio to an electric signal.

Operation is simple. The colour of the LED represents four different modes:

blue-light-knocklinkDim Blue - KnockLink is powered, waiting for the engine to be started

flashing-blue-light-knocklinkFlashing Blue - KnockLink has detected the engine has started and is now calibrating

green-light-knocklinkDim Green - KnockLink is adapting to the engine's noise profile and listening for knock

red-flashing-light-knocklinkFlashing Red - KnockLink has detected knock. Avoid large throttle openings, seek professional advice

Instruction Manual

Engine knock is one of the most damaging effects in any engine. The KnockLink warns the driver in the event of knock with a high intensity red flash.

Installation

Installation is simple and requires four wires to be connected.

Mount the sensor as close as possible to the centre of the engine block.

Never share the knock sensor with the ECU.

Not really correct... You can connect a light to an output and trigger it from the knock level, given the internal filtering and adjustable thresholds it is actually more versatile

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
