very slow cranking legacy

as title says my dads legacy gt bg5 twin turbo cranks very slow had to put a new battery in earlier but it is still very slow cranking would this be early signs of starter motor wearing out or spark plugs?

I had the exact same issues, starting the car it would crank over very slow, then one day I was driving it and the speedo and rev counter started going nuts. Car died... got a new battery still no luck, replaced the alternator and it fixed the issue.

Cranks over very nicely now. I don't know how but it did.

Check the alternator connecting bolt for corrosion/wear/burnout or loose.

Check or test the alternator...

Check the earth from the body to the engine.

check the battery connections for corrosion/tightness

check starter connections

Also think about replacing the starter motor. It could be old and slow.

as for earthing it has an added aftermarket kit so i dont think that is an issue

It might be the issue. Remove and try. It is for example, a FREE option to try.

Holden's & Ford's suffer this issue alot... Evvery Holden I have ever owned had that issue. Got to the point that I had it upgraded at dealers prior to driving off...

Only seen it in others people's Subaru's...

no its clean around the earthing coductor and the power plug but i did notice by the pulley that there is a lot of black fine powder

while the belts are off, have a spin of the pullys, check the bearings.

sorry to bring up an older thread but thought this might help a whole pile of other people well i checkd the codes today just cause i thought id check and i had code 23 which to me just sounded like the AFm was dirty brought some AFM cleaner and now thats gone but the car also cranks heaps faster like it should also idles heaps smoother :) triple win haha

it doesnt start faster it takes the same time but the cranking is alot faster
