HELP!!! Conversion gone bad!!!

Well mate converted my forester into manual and now it sounds like my timing is out but wouldnt have a clue how that could be,

anybody had the same issues could it be he wired it up wrong just spent the last 3hrs getting it home and pritty pissed.

Any info would be a great deal of help before I start spending money on a mechanic or sparky.

Shes pritty fumy and pops likes shes got lumpy cams which she does not

was the engine touched? or just gearbox

nope thats what I dont get and she was running like a dream before conversion.

And was just the gearbox changed, she will kick over but idles like she got lumpy cams and drive like shite

Was the engine removed for the work being done.

You really need to find out what engine components he played with.

Sounds almost like the plug leads are screwed up...

Engine was still in when he changed the box and as far as I no and he told me was that he didnt touch the engine, what leads are you talking about?Was gonna pull the cambelt covers off to make sure it didnt jump a notch aswell it sposed to be changed in another 10k kms mite aswell do that aswell.

Ignition leads.

Or if it's coil on plug Coil leads..

But if he says he didnt touch the engine then it shouldn't be that.

Earthing on the engine block could be an issue too i guess.

I would be really worried if it has managed to jump a tooth on the timing.

Lots of things it could be..

I think you need a conversion expert to take a look at it.. (Ie someone who has done a conversion on a Subaru) and see if anything jumps out as being wrong.

Aw yea just remembered something too, is that when its idling and pulled the afm plug off it seemed to idle better but what concerned me was that I thought it shouldn't run that well without it.

Well, im no expert but, could be something to do with the ECU? By the sounds of it im sure its probably jumped out of timing somewhere on the way home.

unless the wiring all messed up. i see there's a code up on the dash ...... what is it?

yea im pretty sure hes missing out some info hes not telling me(thrashing) and wiring looks messed up so getting sparky to come have a look and then the process of trouble shooting if that aint the case, so least I got something to keep me busy during the weekend.....DAMMIT!!! was looking forward to taking kids out.

Well, im down to it being wiring issues. Looked into it and most problems occur with-in the wiring, best to get a professional to take a look at it.

before I do anything xtreme, was told jus check the afm so a mate going to lend me one tommorow, was wandering why didnt I think of that haha

check all intercooler piping aswell make sure its all on prop and also o2 sensor but def start with afm. if you took it off and it made no differance or made it better then that should be your problem

yup checked piping an she was algud but now im confident it is afm cause it did run better without it

bought a new afm sensor from winger and cleared all the faults so just got to pull the sparks out and clean em up and hopefally she kicks over properly, start doing that tonight when kids are crashed

Yeah be good to take her out of Auckland, havent taken her out of Auckland in two years if memory serves me wright.

pulled out the spark plugs and full of crap so cleaned them up and let the engine sit for about half an hour cause she was running so rich and plugs stinks of fuel.

turn it over with plugs out and fuel pump disabled?

thats what I do for lawnmower when it gets flooded
