how long does it take to get a stolen car back?

A friend of mine found his stolen car form 5 years ago. chassis number matches but plates an vin have been changed. Hes reported it to the cops and given all the details. Its 100% his car. How long should it take the police to go around and take his property back?

wait wait wait so the chassis number on the id tag is his exact one? did he write it down?

the last 6 numbers of the chassis number are the same as the last 6 numbers of the VIN - if they dont match its stolen and some ones changed the vin number

apparently they're coming around to his house today, we got pics of the chassis number which matches the stolen rego details.As well as a s***load of other giveaways that prove its his. Hope they can track down the guy who took it. I don't think the current owner knows its stolen which is going to suck for him.The chassis number is a 100% match for his stolen car exciting stuff

Tags are off the same colour and year model car so someone knew it was stolen and tried to cover it up.

Makes me wana go check all the vin/chassis details of all my cars lol so easily changed

Nah they're not that easily changed - some vin tags react when u try remove them and then you can tell they've been removed
