Auto vs Manual consumption

Just wondering... is ~8.5L/100km for around town driving believable for a manual v7 WRX wagon? My mate has one and achieves this, while I can only manage 12-13L/100km for almost purely suburban driving in an auto BP Legacy GT. And that's driving as economically as possible. It's kinda sad that he can drive as far, if not further, per tank for 20L less fuel! Wouldn't think manual would be that much more economical.

yea its the open road where these babies come into the big fuel cost savings, i mean ours was over 600Ks on a tank last big trip we did.

But yea round town, my BG leggy with the 98 STI engine is about as good on fuel as the BP, and thats with me boosting on the od occasion.

there are certainly better cars than the BP for fuel savings, but we knew that ay! ;D

I gave up smoking so we can afford to put extra fuel in so i can go for a wee boost now and again.

mine uses less as a manula than it did as an auto - combined driving (town/open road) i'm about 9.5 L/100k, long runs i can get it down to about 8 - bg5 leggy. reckon i lightened it by at keast 100kg getting rid of the auto box and plumbing etc

my bike uses 5.5L / 100k and goes like fooking stink ;D

I have an 04 WRX Wagon, and got 8.7l/100km on a trip from Welly to Napier last week, including having a fair bit of fun

Not too bad I suppose, but I knew that I have the wrong car for economy before I bought it

I get 10L/100 round town nana driving (mostly...)

we get 250kms (edit: missus reckons its 255) round town driving on $70 of 98 octane in our BP leggy, thats with the missus driving

edit: and ours is tiptron

also auto BPs are 1.520 tonne

with current 98 prices we figured that out to be 12.1L per 100kms and thats 8KMs per litre

Oh yep, yeah I've done around 50km on my current tank and the clock's reading 8km/L atm. And that's for purely suburban driving.

Yea I'm the same as above.

8.5 around town seems waaay to optimistic, thats about the best you can get from the open road.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. The funny thing is he got worse economy than around town (9.5L/100km) from a trip to Coromandel from Akl; but that's cos he was on the turbo more than usual due to the steep hills.

Get your O2 meter checked, had mine replaced and made a shiite load of difference get about 8.5L/100km half open road half town with reasonable mods

How long are O2 sensors meant to last? I bought my car at 112k kms, and it's now on ~114k. And wouldn't know if it's been changed since new. Can my mechanic check this fairly easily?

I'd be stoked with 10L/100km haha. Guess it's all relative though, since I've never driven anything that does better than that.

meant to be done around 80,000km IIRC

theres a chap on here that can get them real cheap (never buy genuine subaru, they are too expensive.. the after market ones are bosch.. i.e. the same as genuine ones)

Ah ok sweet as. Yeah sorry, I just put that grade in cos that's what Subaru does haha. Think my castrol oil is edge, not magnatec. Is that also 5w-30?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
