Tow Cars

Recommended Posts

What do you have? Is it awesome?

I ask out of interest, and out of maybe-buying-something-that-can-tow-as-daily-driver-so-I-can-do-more-motorsport-without-strandednessfear. I'm tempted to get a 3.0L Toyota Surf Auto (SSR-G?), because a) it's a 3.0L v6 4WD b) it's a toyota c) I like them anyway d) I'm moving house soon so that'd be handy for that anyway e) It's a toyota

On the other hand, the torque output on them (although potentially over a nice fat band) is slightly less than a EZ30, and funkytown has expressed concerns when towing Greg's car, which in current state would weigh less than mine does (albeit not significantly so).

you want something that a) weighs enough to counter act the towed car. and b) that gets along fuel effeciently..

neither of your suggestions will be economical - particularly the Surf.

IMO i would look at some diesel turbo if i were you, maybe a courier, or even something like the Audi Allroads.

Comes down to budget at the end of the day to trade off between a) and b).

I currently have a 96 prado 3L diesel. paid 8 grand.

comfy as, rides good on the road, hardy even know the subaru is on the back with the trailer, tons of grunt up the hills, bigger inside than a surf and nicer seating position. not great off boost so dont by the manual one, but the auto tows real good and on boost by 2grand which auto is tuned for so all good

ecomony in real world, i havent done a tank without towing a car at some point economy is about 13L/100km. be better if i didnt use as much right foot but meh.

wont be as fast as petrol, but thats why you have a tow car and a race car after all. and petrol take a bigger hit when towing economy wise than diesel does(my commodore was very thirsty when i towed with that)

or as i had before, 89 swb bighorn, 10L/100km no matter what your doing, town, open roads or towing, slow as a wet week but sat on the road good for towing. paid like 2 grand 5 years ago and just got rid of it, got every dollars worth, lots of maintaince required but good truck.

GT30 FTW!!!

Nothing like hauling with its aRS on the ground!!

QFT

Ha ha.... The bloody sponsor supplied trailer for that weekend was heavy as hell and had a HUGE tailgate.

Towed with a better trailer since then and it pulled it sweet.

Ideally your tow vehicle should be heavier than the towed vehicle ( nigh on impossible)

Surf/Prado/hilux + 1kzte ( 3 litre turbo diesel later on intercooled as well) + AUTO =would be my second choice

Landcruiser 80/100/200 with the 1HDFTE engine (4.2 turbo diesel and with the 100 series intercooled and EFI) 0r the with the 200 a 4.5 litre turbo twin turbo intercooled V8 diesel with either a 4 speed or 5 speed auto = first choice

I would stay away from the NA diesel as they have bag loads of torque but no HP :( this i know as I have run a landcruiser with a 4.2 litre 6 cylinder for over 400,000 km :)

Info 101: The 2 door Prados have higher tow rating than the 4 door ones.

Depends on how much your towing, and how slow or fast you wana go up hills.

any 3.0 turbo diesel will tow a basic race car setup. Trailer power brake kit will also help alot.

A 70 series Landcruiser with either 6cyl turbo or V8 turbo diesel manaul or auto would be my pick.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
