Recommended Posts

So got my spark issue fixed, my mechanic mentioned that there is a leak in the main oil seal, and on the passengers side tappet cover.

Anyone wanna help me fix it for a box (or more than one) or piss? Timaru or close area :)

also now that firing issue is fixed it keeps cutting boost in every gear can hear bov engaging. any ideas?

its like it hits boost and goes booooooooooooost psh boooooooooooooost psh boooooooooost psh, all the way through rev range, (still goes like fuck!) what would cause this?

ok no boost guage on the car, its standard, only thing the guy has done to it is turbo timer and alarm, headunit change.

No engine mods.

If its a boost cut, what can i do? I dont think its fuel cause the engine still rev's up, Could it be air?

He did have the turbo re-cond, could it be possible the turbo is trying to boost too much?

Whats the best thing to do to try sort the problem? or am i best to take it to a garage the specilises in performance vehicles?

(i have searched the other posts on boost issues, but cant really find a solver, other than clean the MAF, clean air filter, test boost, but no boost guage)

id get a boost gauge on there ASAP and see how high its going. A good test would be to bypass the boost control system and run wastegate pressure, see if it still happens.

Pic of how to do that?

Remove line 3 from t-fitting on line 1/2, then block t-fitting to close the line. You could use an off-cut of vacuum hose with a bung/goof plug in one end and fit other end to the T. Just make sure the bung is tight and secure, if it pops out the wastegate actuator will not open properly causing the turbo to free boost, which will damage the turbo and/or engine.

If its running wastegate pressure itll be running less boost than normal (around 7psi), so if it is hitting boost cut, it would cease to happen at WG pressure. If it still happens, its not boost cut.

... much more investigation took place, and, found that some B*stard, has put the air filter box back on and broken the hinge side of it (closest to the motor) so there is now a bit of a hole there. Also, IMO the filter needs replacing.

So the question is this, would that cause my issue? If i change to a POD will that fix the problem ? (i imagine that to be cheaper than trying to find an original air box and the other bits that arent there). Also, since it has the AFM right at the end of the intake pipe, is it hard to install a POD?

A mate suggested could be BOV not holding pressure enough (broken / worn spring) i dont know enough about them, but that sounds feesible.

If anyone cares...........

Took it to a specialist, tested everything, found MAF was leaning out car, swapped for new MAF, good, but charged turbo system with compressed air, found it to be leaking underintercooler.

so hopefully all fixed

What ever you do m8 dont install a POD!!!!!!! - will root your turbo

are you for real? that's the biggest crock of s*** on this forum.

show me any evidence of this . i run a pod and my turbos fine along with millions throughout the world and i dont see turbos imploding everywhere :D

sorry I may be wrong about stuffing turbos - people have told me that before thats all - but read this - quoted

Once upon a time they were used to replace stock airboxs and air filters as these were a restriction in the intake, with modern design and processes, the restriction is less in the stock item,so replacing it with a pod filter has become less of a performance gain and more of a "bling" factor, there is also a few other downsides to fitting of a pod filter, one being as mentioned vibration, and the damage it causes to your airflow metre, also if the pod in an oiled design, this has detrimental effect on the airflow metre if it is of hot-wire design, and lastly heat the original air box gets cold air routed to it from outside of the engine bay,so with out encapsulating the pod filter in a cold air box and running a cold air intake, you will end up sucking warmer air which will be detrimental to your performance

seriously dont believe everything you read yes vibrations can stuff afm's but if they were installed correctly then there wouldn't be a problem .

99% sure that the whole oiled filter thing is a myth which was used as the blame for engines imploding. have you ever oiled a filter? not that much goes onto it

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
