Wgn Clubsubbers, i need your urgent help.

So my car (Toyota soarer) just broke down.

The alternator failed as i was driving into the cbd. As expected my battery was getting drained as i drove around (had to drop someone off).

I tried to make my way towards Midas (The only workshop where i know the location of) and it died on Davis street.

I managed to get it to the side of the road safely.

Long story short, i need to get it fixed but i have no idea where would be a good place to go.

Any recommendations? The engines a 1jz if its any help. The car is currently located in Thorndon.

Also, would replacing the old battery with a new/store bought one enable to atleast move it to a workshop or would i need it to be transported?

P.S.S anyone know any estimates? Hopefully it wont be bank-breaking.

I would come out for a nosey, but unfortunately:

1. I've been drinking

2. I'm based in Upper Hutt, 45 mins away

NB: Battery's: Don't be paying the retail price, most can be had for $80-100, whereas they are $160-180 at the likes of Ripco, Supercrap, etc...

Nah work gave me the morning off to get it sorted (which is very nice of them).

So ill throw a new battery in it in the morning and then drive it to where it needs to go.

Any recommendations for a mechanic anyone?

We use Brendon Motors on taranaki st for all our private fleet over the years....solid down to earth and know their stuff.

Nearest auto sparkys is ya best bet or a wreckers to find an alternator ,common problem on these join soarer central for more info on ya car

Yeah if it happened at work; could have arranged for the apprentice VM's/Auto sparky's to have a crack at it... happily do perkie's for a box of beers!

Got engineers too - so could fabricate custom mountings for a aftermarket alternator.

got it sorted.

Ended up buying a new battery for it, drove it to the auto sparkies and they fitted a 2nd hand alternator to it.

good thing it was payday on thursday, i didnt really want that money anyway :-\

Can get it done on TM for 200, but the auction wasnt up so had to go with the shop.

Yep. Plus labour, new belt, new battery. Was a small fortune.

Oh well...atleast its done now....
