Whiteline Sway Bars

Hi All,

My spec c has been fitted with whiteline swaybars front and rear, my problem is, after I throw it around a corner, when the car starightens up I get a knock from both front and rear bars.

Is this normal for whiteline bars? As the front and rear ones on my old civic race car never did this.

Or is this from incorrect installation? or just flogged out bushes?

i\'d be checking pushes, possibly greasing them gently.

are you sure it\'s a knock from the bars and not the struts? these have a notorious tendancy for the grease lubricating the struts to dry out and knock like crazy... just requires struts to be regreased.....

I think he has SimonC\'s old car? Which had really quite new and really quite nice struts in it when he sold it... dunno if they\'re still in there though.

heres probably whats happening.

The swaybars are moving laterally in the bushes. happens with hard noltec type bushes that are greased. To test the theory put zip ties on either side of one mount.. go for a spirited drive and then check to see how far the zip ties have shifted along the bar.

Whiteline sell a wee swapbar lock out kit as it happens to stop it shifting.

Perhaps though - your coilovers are wearing out and knocking but its hard to know exactly.

test as above and let me know result. if it is what i\'ve described above these are what you want.

I am picking the bar is moving laterally, well thats what it feels like. I will put some cable ties on this weekend and take it for a drive. Thanks for the advice, can you get the locks locally?

Yea it is simons old car with KW suspension in it

Reading the build page for this car the swaybars are adjustable, would adjusting them either way take some of the lateral movement out?

no, that increases their stiffness and will affect the balance of the car over or understeer and then still knock...if thats what it is.

Check that the rack is not hitting the sway bar at full look, could have been creative install

I have one on the back of my car, same as yours never knocks, so that is not normal. Don\'t know about front bar though.

Holy hell - that explains the front end knock I get on mine - can see the paint wear on the swaybars where it\'s obviously moving back & forth

might not equate to full knock, but certainly where they rub back and forth - if you lock them out properly it will make the sway bar work harder

Knocking can come from lotsa different places is all.

It deff looks like lateral movement, the sway bar has locks on it already, but they are bout 10mm from the mount now. I couldnt move them back so will have to look into some more locks

with them that far away it might have been them knocking against the mounts.
