Buggered tyre cause? Tyre guru needed.

Recommended Posts

So I put my sway bar on yesterday and noticed the left front tyre was completely bothered. I thought ages ago that it was hitting so i bent the offending rib of metal out of the way and kept checking it. It was bald for about an inch from the shoulder of the tyre. What Im wondering is if its ripped out from being weak there and its a shit tyre or if its just way out of alignment? It looks a bit scrubbed on the outsides both sides not just the inside where its come apart. Dont want to bother the new tyre missus would kill me.

Heres some pics.

I run 38psi too high/low?

Its the rib that starts where the abs thingy comes through it runs up to the top of well. Other sides not too bad just slightly worn so cant see how it wouldve been hitting really. So not dead sure if it was hitting or just fukt alignment.

Cant hit suspension...

Looks like a combination of under inflation, shit alignment (as said above)and shit quality tyres. I run 40psi minimum in my shitty sagitars to stop that from happening (215/40-17) they looove collapsing right where the steel belt ends.

Not even tempted to start a tyre pressure thread after watching the oils one go to wtf.

Theyre a 215/35/18 if that makes a difference. Ive only ever run 215/40/17s on cars Ive sorta cared about at same pressure with no funny wear.

I would run 40-45 psi in that size, it is hard to get exactly the correct pressure EVEN with OEM tire/rim combo as it all comes down to weight of vehicle, vehicle use,and type of tire.

you can get 2 exact same cars with exactly the same size tire BUT different tire make and you will have a difference of 5psi to get the tire inflated correctly.

I spend alot of time "tweaking" tire pressures in my fleet to get the best milage( both fuel and tire wear) and it is very very difficult to get it exactly right :)

I used to run 50 PSI in my michelins (XM1+) on my courier van, they were just a 205/65 R15, it was a hard ride but they used to get really good even tyre wear, 80,000kms from a set. but they were a high end passenger vehicle tyre.

Its all about the tyre quality, after seeing how your achillies have alaaen apart does it now make you cautious about running cheap tyres?

your 195 15;s are probably an 8 ply commercial tyre which run higher pressures, mine were a passenger car tyre and urgent courier so hardly ever had much weight in the van, only a few hundres kilos most days.

I also used to run 0 toe and -1deg camber to look after the tyres, it felt a little floaty on the motorway but stopped the outside edge getting chewed up in the front.

Theyre really not that cheap though not like triangle/linglong/etc. Maybe in quality but not price. I used to spend the same $ value on 215/40/17 and get good tyres so thought its worth a chance. Probably need to spend another $100 at least on a set though to get good tyres. Theyve got shitloads of tread left and theyre almost a year old maybe quite hard? Theyre not the best in the wet thats for sure.

Its certainly out of alignment but its exaggerated by the type of tyre. Like i said in the other thread mate they are cheap charlie tyre and this is what they do, seperate at the tyre wall.

Under or over inflation isnt too much of a worry and depends on the tyre and size as to whats \'optimal\'

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
