rewiring v8 loom into v6 wrx

hey guys been searching around and have found bits and pieces answers to my questions. If i have the v8 ecu and engine loom is it a massive mission to merge the rest of my v6 loom into it i.e all the interior stuff like lights and dash shit. I could maybe buy a link but thats another huge expense. Im prepared to take time and do it if its not the sorta thning that a professional needs to do, if its a matter of looking at pinouts and matching/solderng wires then id be keen to give it a go. runs the v8 sti ecu on a v8 sti motor, but spliced into the v5/6 sti loom in between.

You shouldn\'t have to touch all the interior/dash/etc etc loom - that\'s the "body" loom... engine and ECU loom ought to be mostly separate.

There will be a surprisingly small number of wires joining the ECU/engine loom to the body loom. You just need the electrical wiring diagrams for both the donor and recipient cars, good soldering skills and a lot of spare time. If you get a set of body loom plugs off both cars (male and female) V8 then you could theoretically build a conversion plug anyway allowing you to plug it all in without cutting into either loom.

The body loom isn\'t really separate from the ECU loom in a Subaru. If you\'re good with tracking down the ECU pinouts, checking and labeling everything as fastidiously as a librarian then its not impossible to splice ECU plugs off a later model into an earlier loom. And then also matching up things at the engine loom end of things in the engine bay.

You\'re going to end up tracing the wires from all the individual sensors on the engine to the engine bay plugs and then back to the ECU plugs to get everything to line up so you really need the full wiring diagrams from both models. Or the V8 ECU end pinouts a multimeter with long leads and alot of patience. I reckon it would be worth it in the end, may need to run some extra wires from ECU through to the engine bay aswell, but with alot of time and care would be doable.

I\'d start by labeling all the wires at the ECU end. Then following the wires from the sensors on the engine to the engine bay plugs. Then splicing the V8 engine loom to the earlier engine bay plugs. Then tracing those wires back to the ECU to ensure they\'ve all lead back to the correct spot. Then splicing V8 ECU plugs onto the earlier interior loom. Plug everything in and check it all about 5 more times before plugging into the V8 ECU.
