Max safe boost on primary turbos

Hi Guys,

What do people think is the highest safe boost you would want to be running on a primary turbo.

Car in question is a BE5 / 2000.

At the moment it runs nicely at half throttle at around 5-7psi but when applying full throttle it will peak to 12-14 then drop back to 10.

What\'s people thoughts ?

I\'m more trying to avoid doing damage / bending fins as I don\'t have the money to replace the turbo at the moment.

What is safe on one car may not be safe for another.

If you want to up the boost then find someone who can tell you how rich or lean its running and adjust the boost to suit.

+1 the standard boost on primary should be around 10-12 psi

Well this has been reassuring

It is a TT so it\'s running about 16-18 on both which is more than enough for my liking as it is.

I\'m just wanting to avoid replacing the turbo more prematurely that needed. AFAIK it\'s done 270k km.

270km no big ends? Well done. Mate up here has a rev d its boosting 18ish no taps nothing still goes like a cut cat and no smoky blow or anything silly.

Blew BeB just before xmas sadly

Rebuilt motor in it with STi pistons, rods and heads so I\'m fairly certain it should handle things without to much issue.

Na man, just leave the secondary turbo down pipe disconnected, when the secondary opens up sounds like a mean as waste gate man!!!

Funny/weird thing is I had a workmate who did exactly that on his RS sedan

Ran a second pipe down to the back axle line-ish just for the secondary. Actually sounded quite hard case - this was back like.. 2001? Blew minds back then - if you wanted a vented WG it meant forking out megabucks for like a turbronetics one for several hundy haha

I run 18 on primary daily have done for months, it\'s abit of a myth of them blowing or over boosting and causing problems, set it at 16 with a boost controller and you\'ll be sweet
