Out of intrest, who can get details from plates? Was hit and run today,

I was reversed into in a carpark in st albans, christchurch and chased the guy right out of town and down old west coast road out to the west coast and refused to pull over. Stopped at the lights my mrs knocked on his window and told him to pull over and he said \'i cant, its not my car, its my dads and took off again. Even after a farilt hairy bit of driving the bastard wouldnt stop so had to let him go.

Can anyone get address or anything off a plate so I can go visit his \'dad\'.

post office, $10 iirc for a printout of current owners registered details, if they havn\'t had their details hidden.

personal $0.02, this +1. full statement, give all the details you can, get hold of your insurance company, give them all the details of the offending car, they\'ll pay for your repairs and chase the owner / driver of the other car for payment. helps if you have a police file number.

No sir you need to apply with govt etc costs monies. Carjam used to give you chassis/engine etc but turned to shit now with restrictions on it.

I do this stuff on a regular basis as part of my job, the details will only return to what is updated in the system. Best to goto the police, might not be much help at first, but will later down the road.

Do this

1/ file a police report ( they may or may not do anything) OR dial *555 and tell them usually good response.

2/ File insurance claim with said police report

Let them sort it out

Only real safe and legal way of dealing with it

*555 works bloody well. Done a driver I followed for about 20km who was speeding up then slowing down, swerving all over the road then when he got into town he was running stop signs and running around like a lunatic to atm etc. Once he got back in his car 555 cops were there in 2mins and 2 cars even. The guy was sober as a judge just a fuckin awful driver.
