Ha even though I've cut mine out the only noise I get is a bit of induction type noise. Doesn't make my BOV make any noises. All I wanted is better airflow but still keep the system pretty stock. Wasn't looking to get boyracer noises. The snorkel thing is there more to keep the induction noise down for the little old ladies. Cleaner airflow has to be better!!!

I'm no expert so dont slice 'n' dice me. When I installed my pod filter immediatly the intake noise was louder AND the factory blow off valve was really obvious

It usually needs about a -10C change in air temperature to make any difference to power. Its why I always laugh when I see induction kits which go out of their way to suck air from near the bottom of the bumper because supposedly air is colder at that height off the ground :D

I said it was slight ;-)

However you also have to consider ambient temperature and heat soak of the standard vs ducted when stopped as well. I can certainly feel the extra 0.1 horsepower so mock all you want :P

This is a 94 WRX, you cant just apply the same figures to every other Subaru using a similar intake system. The article also assumes (wrongly) that the intakes resonant chambers are purely for reducing intake noise which for me shows a fundamental lack of understanding of the original design.

Still, for a few bucks, its worth trying I guess ;D

Id expect that the large chamber near the open end of the intake is for noise reduction, but the smaller one nearer the engine side is probably to do with generating or reducing a particular frequency to aid torque at lower rpms. Not that this thread has discussed removing this, but the article linked to briefly considers it as a possible future upgrade to further reduce restriction in the inlet system. That was what I was talking about mainly.

There is one final thing which again is perhaps worthy of mention just as a general point when modifying intake systems. It is usually a bad idea to run a single enclosed tube or pipe to a location close to ground level, because should you hit a large amount of standing water, then the water will get ingested straight into your intake and grenade your engine. Ive seen it happen with intakes at knee level!

ok so with a gen II rsb i had a pod on mine and i dont want one anymore lol do they come with thatair feed from the gaurd that the pics show the 99gtb does?

im guessing earlier on in the topic the person that covered thecut end of the intake in gaurd just ran it directly to the front? so really the intake goes from your feed at front through the gaurd wall and then into the cut off part of chamber and then back through the wall and into the afm ?

is there not a shorter way of doing it?

Just an update on this if anyone is wanting to do this, I done this today, mainly because i wanted a noisier intake.

I have a Revision D Legacy and this was realy easy to do.

Results from what ive done. Intake sounds EXACTLY the same no increase in volume which was a surprise and disapointing, and definitely no BOV sound even when being caned :(

Im not sure now how valuable this mod actually is, but it is really easy and would rather do this than install a pod filter.

If you want to do this mod go for it it took half an hour after sourcing all the parts, i used 85? mm pvc piping from Mitre 10 the elbo cost $6 and i had a bit of strait pipe which i bell mouthed then glued onto the elbo.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
