V7 STi Clunking noise and power drop.

BUGEYESTI

Recommended Posts

Hey, I own a 2000 V7 STi, and on my way home from work today, sitting in traffic and rain, there was a consistent double knocking noise, and in the time between both knocks the RPM would drop 250-500. If it were just the knocking noise I would just assume it would be something with the suspension/shocks. I have to go see my mechanic tomorrow anyway, but thought I\'d ask here to see what anyone thought it could be?!

*It did this after I first bought it(6months ago) but stopped on its own accord, so didn\'t bother me.

*noise from what i could hear from driving was coming from back left ..

THANKS!

Left rear passenger side is the area the fuel pump is ..Could be failing and may explain the revs changing at idle..Long shot but possible..

pump is drivers side rear.

i do know of a common fault with the v7/8 inverted struts, particularly passengers rear, of the grease drying out due to age and the strut sticking inside the holder, but that\'s an easy fix and doesnt account for RPM drop.

if the mechanic says replace struts, tell them to sod off, just regrease them. easy job to do.

i\'d start to look at the state of your cv\'s and possibly rear diff??

My mechanic didnt really know, he checked the strut and said it was fine. He said the diff would be the last place he would look. My oil was low after it was filled up 1-2 months ago. He said without hearing/seeing whats happening himself or having the car for a few days he cant really come to a conclusion. Would it be worth taking it to subaru or a subaru specialist.

* It didnt make the noise at all today

* Still on the odd occasion has slight detonation even though runnig on 98(gull)

Gull 98 is a 10% ethanol blend, recommend going to bp or mobil 98, less issues

Note that Mobil 98 is also ethanol blend (or was last I checked!)

Depends on where in the country you are. Found it in most mobil stations south of taupo. Have yet to see anything around auckland at 10%.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
