Is my axle too short or have i got the wrong circlip.

Recommended Posts

hey guys, finally figured out why my car was making a weird clicking/thumping noise when making slow right turns. Had the car up on the hoist the other day and the axle that goes into the cv joint had basically fallen out. I changed the circlip and poped it back in. After 2mins of driving the noise came back and the axle has come out again.

could it be that the axle itself it too short? or have i got the wrong circlip? oh also the car is quite low. it\'s a gc8.

Thanks

Sitting super dooper low? with adjustable front top hats at their outer limit to regain some camber? Possible bad front diff mounts etc adding to lateral movement when power goes on? All trying to stretch your axles/CV\'s further than they want to stretch. That little Circlip is the weakest link.

Front diff mounts you say ???

Perhaps on my Hilux, not so much on a Subaru.

maybe not worded very well but he may be describing the mounts forward of the rear-diff

i\'d agree its an unlikely fault in this case though

Are you talking about inner or outer cv?

If its the outer cv your talking about with the snap ring around the spline of the axle then it could be the clip is worn or the inside of the cv where the clip seat is worn or both, It should be relatively hard to hit the outer cv off. If it comes off without to much bashing then there is a problem there. best to install a brand new cv kit and inspect spline, both left and right front axles are the same length.

If you talking about the inner then remove clean and inspect and replace with new boot kit you should do this anyway while axles out.

It\'s the outer cv. The problem i\'m having is that the cv joint wont stay on the axle. I popped it back on the other day but after two or three turns, it just pops back off the axle. I noticed that when i was putting the joint back on the axle that the splines didn\'t seem to line up properly but i knocked it with the hammer and it managed to pop back on. Maybe it\'s the wrong cv joint. Would a mis matched cv joint cause it to pop of the axle?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
