V7 sti "integrated navigation system"

Hey,my V7 has a subaru integrated navigation system, which I\'ve only seen on one other V7, Ive been to subaru and it cant be reflashed to NZ map, so I was just wondering if any one had ideas of what I could do with it, wether it would be possible to fit another off the shelf GPS in it and wire it to the open close button some how? Im not sure I have no experience with this stuff..

No seriously. I would pull the whole system out an put a nice functional stereo and pocket in. And either rip out screen and put gauge pod on it or get one of the globe box pocket thingys

Actually the torque pro one is near identical to that

Just find a dirt cheap tablet and glue it in there, can tell the app to run like that on car startup. Theyve built the options in for it since they know thats exactly how people will use it, shut off with car power off so it doesnt seem like some rangid up contraption

Can all be customised, uses the devices accelerometers to do the g-force thing if you wanted. How much it shows depends on how much the ECU knows obviously, newer / flasher vehicles have more sensors etc I guess

doesn\'t new subaru 2012 wrx come built in with the screen with g force boost and something else standard? the cousin\'s one has that built in, looks flash wouldnt mind that in the subi dont know if its swappable ;D

I doubt it\'ll be swappable into the older ones, post v9 tuey went to 32bit archetecture which has a massive amount more capability, and much faster comms. The torque app does gforce though ;-)

Those are all elm 327 chip units, no good for pre canbus jdm. Should be fine for nz new though

Bear in mind his "v8" is a wee bit of a bitsa, the motor is a V7 one IIRC.

How do you know this? I was told it was v8..

It has a single-scroll manifold and VF30 right?

For some reason I just thought it had a full V7 motor in it. I have nfi how, from the outside, you would differentiate between the 2, aside from the rather easily changed singlescroll/twinscroll thing.

Ideally, have a look at the ECU and see what it is as that\'s what matters at the end of the day for diag communication.

See there on the top of the adaptor where it says ELM327?

Yeah, that means it wont work in your car.

Ssm plug or a tactrix cable.

I know of ONE bluetooth ssm dongle available worldwide, by a company called obdkey. Circa $180 delivered, ex UK.

Tactrix can reflash, but will sting you about $260 iirc. 3 days delivered ex california.

Ok,

So what i did in the last week was take the thing out and check out whats on the back, i found that it indeed has a yellow compisite video plug! YAY!

Unfortunatly the only thing i had at my flat which i could test was my ps3, so screw it i carried it out with an extension cord and pluged it into the screen! it worked ish. the ps3 out puts pals not ntsc or whatever that the screen wants so back to the drawing board. at my mums i had a raspberry pi doing nothing which some people put raspbmc on which is like xbox media center. those that dont know raspberry pi is like a 50 dolla pc which runs on lynix open source. Now i loaded mine up and hooked it up to the screen, this presented better results but a hell of a lot better. just trying to change the resolution and see if i can improve it. i intend to use this as a media center in my car with a hdd hooked up for unlimited music and videos or pictures safe as house when not driving. not so much for driving

will keep you posted how i get on
