Fitting cruise control

Recommended Posts

Hi, Just bought a 2010 Subaru Exiga. Didn\'t have cruise control so thought I would have a go at fitting it based on this thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2571511 They suggest that if you fit the buttons everything else required for cc is already in the vehicle. I was a little sceptical but got the cruise control buttons for just $35 delivered on Ebay and fitted them. Well the cc light on the dash now activates and the buttons light up at night but apart from that nothing has changed. There did appear to be a software install when I first started the car but my Japanese aint the best. Any suggestions?

cheers

Richard

UPDATE: SKIP TO PAGE 5 FOR THE WRITE-UP!

When you first powered it up after the install, did the car say something different in Japanese?

Yes, it seemed to do an update. One of those bars appeared like it was loading software. Took about 30 seconds. I really thought it was going to work after that with cruise light coming on as well.

It\'s possible our imports have different parts fitted, or removed.

Your ECU has registered the Button install and loaded the required data, ready for use...But something\'s missing.

There must be a CC Relay, or as said a CC Fuse in one of the fuse boxes? Don\'t give up. ;D

From what I have read I think maybe the brake switch might have something to do with it. None of the fuses in the manual appear to relate to the cc alone. Thanks for the encouragement! I have a feeling it is something minor but too technical for me, very frustrating

Is the CC Light flashing at all, or just solid on/off? Any CEL?

It toggles on and off when you press the cruise switch, no flashing. The Set light appears on start-up but does not respond to the Set button. What is CEL?!

CEL - Check Engine Light.

One Main fuse for the Brake Lights, in the Battery fuse box.

Then a 7.5A Fuse for the ABS/VDC/ECU etc. Are there any spare Fuse slots in the Cabin fuse box?

Edit: So if the 7.5A fuse blows, (or is not installed on import) the brake lights still work. But the Brake switch is not connected to the CC/ECU/VDC etc?
