Welding centre diffs?

Guest

Recommended Posts

welding the centre diff is an important part of making it rwd . along with removing the front half shafts .

welded centre 4wd would be a dumb move for a street car and or track car . unless its on gravel or got a lot of power and/or you are going to drive it like a group b car .

Ok exactly what I thought then, couldnt figure out how the hell it would make it rwd.

Kind of get how it would be a prick to drive thinking about it. Before reading on it I didnt really get how it would effect it so much as front and rear sort the left/right difference. Thinking about it it would be a bit lurchy.

Definitely Lurchy, severe under and over steer at the same time.

I use Tarmac to test my Hilux 4WD (centre diff lock with F&R open), within 1m at full lock the front is bouncing and tires screeching.

What centre diff on the Hilux :D Unless you\'ve swapped another driveline in....

yeah no lux ever had a centre diff lol

it has a drive shaft to the rear . then it engages a gear to the front aswell

Locked centre diff/transfer case. Still has the same effect :P

You can split the front casings and unbolt the crown wheel from the front diff after locking the centre. That way you can still run complete front half shafts.

Just make sure you have the splines lined up on the inside of the centre diff before welding it

No Rossub a transfer case is not the same as a centre diff but you know that now :P

I\'ve played with the internals of both. Was describing the effect, not the internal mechanical differences between vehicles. ;D

Come on mate, No need to twist words..I\'ve play with myself and both hilux and subaru gearboxes too. I\'ve also been on the rebuild bench of a reputable 4x4 wrecker(All 4 wrecking) in melbourne over 14 years ago.. I got that good at it i could have every little part of the gearbox scattered on the bench and know exactly where every part goes.. same with lancruiser gearboxes.

The centre diff in our subarus split the torque where as a hilux transfer case transfers the output from rear output shaft of the gbox to both front and rear diffs. So when you talk about transfer cases and centre diffs they are apples and oranges.

FYI the 3 years i worked on the bench i would rebuild about 2-3 hilux gearboxes per week we used a company called cbc bearings to order the kits from. The hilux transfer cases are very strong. In the years i worked there we only ever sold 1 transfer case. We had big scrap metal cages full of them, all good working condition but only worth scrap price because no one needed any.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
