Reflashes/Road tunes in Auckland

Isnt it always the owners "responsiblity" if anything goes wrong during a tune.

Some tuners even make you sign waiver forms.

I believe the owner ISN'T always 100% responsible if anything goes wrong during the tune. Imagine a case where a shop built and tuned your car and it blew up within weeks. In a case like this, the owner should not sign or be responsible for anything if the shop who got paid to build and tune the engine for X power level does a crappy job at it.

I do have to wonder if someone's car blew up and they sued him.

I'm not suggesting this is what happened, but it seems like a possibility given how quickly and randomly he shut up shop.

Nope he simply makes far more money in his day job and doesnt have the time.

Have you considered getting e-tuned from America? It's quite cheap, all you need is a cable and a wideband. I am planning to get my Version 8 STI by Phatron (from Nasioc) when I upgrade my setup. His reviews are really good and he has tuned many JDM motors.

What benefit does that serve over having a kiwi give you a hand?

Silly question but for the cost of buying all the gear, and the amount of pre-configured maps online people have shared already, why not just DIY it?

If you're just using WB02 and the factory knock sensor to tune with, why not just take the time to learn how to do it yourself? Not like a guy doing an E-tune will have any more info than you, they can only do so much and if anything it'll be far less exact than what you can do in real time yourself

Pre mapped configs are just a bit average. Not all engines are the same. So while a tune may be good for someone else's car it may not work for yours. You can get a decent e-tune done for around $400. Plus you will need aa tactrix cable. Either buy one from tactrix.com or borrow one.

So you've finally made the move to the dark side that is clubsub, good choice

my 2C .. open source tuning is great if you know what you are doing and dont get too greedy..

most of the time if you get greedy then things dont work out well..

for all the tunes i have done, i have done has not been pushed to unsafe levels and the results have been nice for the ownwers as usually end up with more power and a safer running car tuned to the fuel they use..

Pappu / spoon is bloody good, knows his stiff inside out.

A road tune will never be as accurate as a dyno, but not as expensive either.

The options available are:

Protune through nz tuner. Spency.

Web tune, spency as you will need to get a cable.

Local tune open source, cheaper as they have their own cables

Or diy.

Personally I prefer diy. You get to learn all kinds of neat stuff about your ECU, what can and can't be done, how much of a difference small changes make.

I'm not sure if you're arguing or agreeing with me tbh

The argument of "not all engines are the same and one tune does not suit all" is fair if you have a heavily modified car and/or a knife edge type of tune, but for a general touch up etc it's no different to the stock tune (which is also identical for every car)

A bit of both :-)

We all know that stock tunes are pretty pants. Most of Subaru's stock tunes will pull timing by dropping the IAM

This bit is only my opinion, so I'm open for discussion.

Pre made custom tunes could go in 2 directions. 1. A good safe tune that will work on pretty much any engine that is stock. I think these are actually a good start. This would be what most E-tuners would send you as a starting point and is normally 80% of the way there 2. If the tune has been custom made to a specific engine and not normalised for the mass market so to say then I think these are a bad idea because your engine may not be as good or as bad as the engine it was made for and you could either end up damaging your engine (worst case) or with worse performance.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
