v5 STI type R turbo

A bigger Turbo like what? at the time there was only the VF22 that was larger.

Somebody mentioned incorrectly that the 22B had a VF24; the smallest.

I can't speak for Subaru and there reasoning behind such a choice.

The 22B was a celebratory road-going model, not a homologation special for competition so no need for a big turbo which would compromise its on-road driveability.

Im not huge on the knowledge of what turbo is bigger than what. I only knew Vf22 was the biggest in that range.

oh ok - i thought the 22b had a vf24 as its from the v4 era not the v3. yea interesting choice to use a model back for turbo - maybe the 24 was too small for the top end flow on the 2.2. engine..

as far as v5 type r turbo being a vf28, i asked cos read in the performance car magzine abt the 12.6 1/4 mile on near stock sti R... bloody good time i must say

in the MRT link it says the vf28 and v4 are nearly same

I did 12.7 on near stock type R, with heavy 18s, 1/2tank, full interior and a fat ass behind the wheel.

harry/stinfx did a 12.7 on a stock v4 (vf24) too

dam... 12.7 on stock type R ay..thats good stuff for fully stock models

(is it just the weight or lack of or is it the gearbox thats the main component being short ratio and all)

what abt the 4 dr sti whats the best ppl been doing on that..

The short ratios make it a touch harder as need to change from 4th to 5th just before the line.

Jase did a 12.7 or 12.8 in his v8 sti spec c standard about there anyways...

I think its a standard sorta sti figure if you drive hard and fast and get a good start..
