v5 STI type R turbo

ok so i have a bet to settle -

for all the type R drivers or the knowledgeable other

does a v5 STI type R come with a VF24 or a VF28 turbo

i been told a VF24 but unsure...

any one can confirm

My V4 coupe has a VF23, im pretty sure that the V5 should have a VF24, my mates V6 Coupe has a VF24 aswell

i was under the impression that:

v6 had vf28 (99-00)

v5 had vf24 (98-99)

v3/v4 had vf23 (96-97)

and v4 also had vf24 (97-98)

this is specific to STI type r and maybe the sti as well

Ver 5 would probably have a vf28 possibly vf29

These cars are 10+ years old and could have any turbo in them now..

Either way all those turbos will make about the same power.

Liams has a 28 in it. It's more or less factory and unmolested...however it may have had a turbo failure previously. The best way would be to ring up a stealership and ask.

If stock it will be a VF28, which is basically a VF24.

I have also seen a totally stock V3 coupe (freshly imported) with a VF22 on it so who knows ???

From the replies here you would logically conclude

v4= vf24

v5 = vf 28

Once again CS confuses the issue by putting answers unrelated to the original question.

In saying that my v4 r had a vf28 on it also but may have been changed at some point

i thought the vf22 was only on the non sti wrx the jdm spec that cale in v3 and v4

the sti never had the vf22 - according to some magzines i have read

the sti for that model had the vf23/24

even the 22b had a vf24

Yup.

Therefore as a rule of thumb

V4 Sti Type R = vf24

V5 Sti Type R = VF28.

22B = VF23

V5 and V6 STI = VF28

V6 STI RA = VF29 (a slight revision of the VF28)

V4 STI = VF24

V3 STI = VF23

So may i ask.

Why use a vf23 on an old model (v3) then use the same turbo on the 22b? I thought youd want a bigger turb on something like the 22b?
