I'm at about 450hp (flywheel) these days.

Budget maybe $20000, should get you there. If you're trying to do it cheaply, don't bother - just get an exhaust and a reflash and call it done.

EDIT: I just did a real quick back-of-a-napkin price-up and came to $12000 and I've probably forgotten a bunch of stuff and factored in basically 0 labour other than the tune.

That's also not doing anything about the 5-speed gearbox which will probably die if you give it some jandle at that power level.

No idea why you're bothering with the Link already, I'd just buy it and keep it on a shelf until the rest is done. You're spending probably $1000 on a tune that becomes worth exactly $0.00 when you install new injectors because you will completely ruin the fuel map.

Fuel injectors, get ID1000s

All of this is pretty much moot though because your 2.5 WRX motor will be at the ragged edge at 450hp and you want it done properly, so budget maybe $5k to do an EJ207/EJ257 swap OR budget $15k extra to do a proper forged build.

So you're looking at maybe $30k and you should get somewhere around 450-500hp, done properly.

Thanks for that. Once the bigger hp increases come ie turbo etc then i will be looking at a forged rebuild. For now all i can afford is the injectors, pump, comp & tune so all is running nicely while i get the $$ together for the next stage.

Any reccomendations on where to get injectors from? And with the 1000cc will i need new rails as well? Also have heard a few contradicting stories as to side or top feed. I think top feed high impedance is correct though for v9 2.5?

cheers.

Opinion:

Figure out exactly what you want to do.

450hp end of the day is just a figure. Do you want response, do you want a time attack, rally or circuit car or road car. yada yada

Once you know exactly what you want, go about figuring out what supporting modifications you'll need to get there.

Just remember, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow...

So remember to do all your suspension, brakes, wheels and tyres FIRST. They're what transform the car (in my opinion remember).

There's been discussions surrounding MCA suspension recently on here and for track one bloke who got a suspension setup from MCA dropped .7 of a second off his PB with no other changes to the car.

Gearbox, just putting it out there and like what Boon said, big power is the death of 5 speeds. Worth time/money investing in a 6 speed.

That's my 10 cents.

P.S. While I agree with Kwi_fozzie about the whole Link thing, if long run you're wanting something for motorsports and something that at the end of the day has a butt-load of power, probably your best bet, just not needed yet. They're not going to go up in price.

See I did the whole little-bit-here little-bit-there build and it was a gigantic waste of time and money.

If you go jump on a dyno now, you will probably get like 175wkw

If you do big-ass injectors, fuel pump, Link and tune you will most likely get about 190wkw and you will have wasted $1000 on the tune because it will be meaningless when you change the turbo, headers, exhaust and intercooler.

Instead, you could just leave the money in a bank account and not worry about the fact that you're missing out on a whole 15kw. That's probably the difference between driving your car on a hot day and driving it on a cold one. That way, when you have the forged block and big turbo and all the miscellaneous, you can buy a Link G7 or whatever they're up to by that point instead of making do with your G4+ and wishing you had the latest one.

I vote aim for the 220 -250kw combo, it's the best bang for buck you will get. Or if you really want that 450hp out of your car just sell it and grab something else/already finished. A similar year sti would have the drivetrain to handle the power you seek where as yours probably won't handle it too well.

look into these mods

decap injectors or similar

fuel pump

intercooler

sti turbo or similar

reflash ecu tune

be happy and probably only cost you the price of the link, then you could grab a set of grippy tyres and a big rear sway bar to help with cornering.

There is a guy on here who decaps injectors, are they the side feed or top feed with that engine setup?

His forum name is Tony

Worth sending him a message I think

p.s inb4 ring failure

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
