Spray painting some rims

So i want paint up some rims for the track on the cheap

have seen guys buy spray paint and do it, question.?

Where to get it? And what brand/type?

Doesnt have to be flashly, Im using white for colour.

how cheap do you want it to be? i had 4 rims professionally powdercoated for $60. $15 a corner seemed sweet as to me.

that is real cheap bro.. only thing is the rubber is on the rims and that seems like lots of farking round to get them off and then back on and rebalanced...

I have just going to tape off all the rubber so's not to mark that and do it myself..

carefully slap some grease on the rubber after cleaning the rims.... then spray away, once dry, clean the grease n overspray off

Works really well for the machined rim look

i dont understand what you mean.. to acheive what? I was just going to tape off the rubber, and put some small card in the groove between rim and rubber

I think he means cover the tyre in grease then spray paint then wash grease off...

Yes. 2 clear coats after 2 or 3 base coats. Doubles the cost to $40 but looks much better.

thanks mate... i think i can run to $40 pinger lol... One assumes 1 can will do four wheels for both the white and clear coat i takes it..

of course assumption is the MOAFU's

Lol balancing and remounting is only going to sting you maybe $40. Id get them powder coated and have a much more professional job thats going to last longer for not much more money.

yer hard out bro.. they looked minga on my rex at taupo, and trev has white ones on his car and they look good (different rim tho).. its something different, white on blue looks nice.

so i had a crack last weekend at painting the rims. 2 coats of white later and they were starting to look of for a home job, ive been out to touch them up now and then start applying the clear but they hvae gone mental, anything aplied to the wheels is just causing the applied paint to all just peel up and look totally shit..

WHY?

looks like im gng to have to sand the WHOLE lot off and start again..

You've got some residue of something on the rims which is causing the paint to do that. Make sure they are super clean. Use something like Mineral turpentine to clean them up.

any easy way to strip the paint totally off these now? They look terrible now ive tried to retouch

Get them sandblasted? Or just sand the area back

Oh and use primer

you could acid dip them that'd be alot quicker. also make sure you prep them right by cleaning them with prepsol or something. Definately use primer if your painting, probably recomend using an etching primer as your painting to bare metal.

GASKET STRIPPER works a treat for removing paint(from everything so be careful)

give them a good waterblast after,then clean with solvent,then sand(even use a brillo pad they prettty good) then use a alloy primer then your top coat
