Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm just looking into adding another toy to my subby family, its a 93 BF5 Legacy wagon with auto trans, done 162km's, It looks nice and tidy but I'm just wanting to know if anyone has any tips on what to watch out for on these models (problem wise), any guidance would be appreciated, thanks heaps!

More information would be good.

Model specific issues would be;

Inter cooler water pump

Perished coolant hoses

Split radiator header tank

Cam cover seals

Leaking power steering pump/Rack

Old coil packs

Rubber window seals

Auto transmission age

Noisy engine (Lifters)

Many more which I'm sure others will post.

Mainly you want to see a good service history and receipts.

They eat auto transmissions too. Mine had a blown engine (warped block) and a dicky auto... got bored/curious and boosted it. Auto go SMASHYPOW! So keep an eye on that. Best to upgrade to a GTB box or manual convert if it does assplode ;D

the wagons seem to have a tendency to collect dirt behind the front mudguards on the inner bottom panel, especially after 20 years which will cause rustouts of that panel, its hard to see as there is trim that usually covers it. Went to pickapart to cut me a panel and all suffered the same thing, only could find a facelift one so we tacked that on, wont rust for awhile now.

Although this doesnt apply to a auto my old manual BF5 GT the clutch slave cylinder went was an expensive repair! Just something to keep in mind if you found and bought a manual model. Also already mentioned my CV's got eaten, had noisey lifters and a burst radiator hose.

Have a wee look if you want, I'm a bit pissed though as she now tells me the car's had a fender bender in the rear and will need to be fixed for wof, apparently insurance company paying out for it but this means I'm buying a car that I wont actually get possession of until it's fixed and she's leaving on this Sunday, so hmmmm I dont really know what to do now I'm a bit skeptical to be honest.

That looks reasonably tidy man, that power steering hose leak mensioned for a wof could turn into a re-condition of the steering rack tho? but every thing else is pretty sraight forward to fix aye. & as for the fender bender there's an excellent Subaru panel shop here in ashburton, just up the road from your mechanic :)

Yeah I have another legacy that shape (non turbo) as a parts car so I've got plenty of spares lol, I think I might leave this one really and keep looking - even if it is cheap I'm sure there's just as good ones out there and I wont have to deal with the "I'm leaving the country in 10 mins so decide!" rushed as hell attitude, as I have found out in the past it pays not to rush and if it seems to be too cheap to be true chances are it'll cost me in the long run and I'm not too keen on the idea that I'll never be able to contact the previous owner.

how do you free up a seized BOV?

/quote]

what type of bov are we talking.

The funniest thing i seen was using a ute, jack & a chisell punch instead of a press to un-sieze the piston in a BOV that had siezed solid, wish i had takin photo's.

But when the boss say's you can't lend tools out you really can't let people use them, 'So i did lend the chisell' only ;D ;D ;D

Racepro soundblaster II or something like that. Nothing special but the car had been sitting idle for atleast a couple weeks with out any BOV action and when I got it, it seems to have dried up so I go some CRC 56 on it and it started sliding again after I adjusted the spring and then re adjusted it back but it still seems its not what it used to be like before...something is amiss?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
