How have front wheel drive cars got such a bad rep to drive?

I see on forums and stuff when people are choosing cars that they must be either rwd or awd.

I myself have had a lot of fun playing in fwd cars.

Opinions?

fwd are mint i had a fxgt and it was heaps of fun... stabbed the clutch out of every intersection and once had the passenger front wheel spinning so fast the hubcap flicked off and wiped off the wing mirror

I like the fwd apart from the no traction in higher HP levels and torque steer, wicked fun with the hand brake on in the grass feels like Ur gliding

Also reverse burnouts where fun to

Anyone remember watching the WRC a few years back when Loeb was just starting out in the fwd citerons?

His driving aside the awd cars could not keep up.

thats coz the 4wds were restricted and there were no rules for his car, so he got a free pass, i remember colin mcrae doing an interview and he said, well fine let him race with no restrictions, and do the same with us, that will sort the men from the boys!!!

a 600hp wrc car mmmmm..........

i dont think i can put his driving aside his soooooo good.

and Because of the weight bias towards the front(engine and transmission is directly on the front wheels),

FWD cars are limited in the handling and performance departments even tho he kicked on the black stuff i put it down to his driving :P

He may be a good driver but the rules were entirely biased towards those fwd cars at the time. If fwd was soo good they would have all swapped to running it as most of the cars that the wrc ones are based on are fwd in real life so would be better from a marketing point of view. But when the playing field is even, 4wd smokes fwd in rallying, its that simple.

oh, would just like to add, the citroens only did well on the tarmac events, in fact i think thats all they entered. show them a lil bit of gravel and they were useless.....go the 4wd!!!

I know it was only tarmac. I just didn't think it was worth mentioning seen as how most of the people on this forum don't drive on gravel.

Last FWD car i owned put me off for life. Opel Calibra with a cosworth redtop motor. 180bhp was too much for it. I remember in the wet dropping the clutch into 3rd at 100kph to pass a logging truck and it just spun up a front wheel and went nowhere.

And dont get me started on the twitchy handling in the wet or nasty understeer. Squeeling out of every intersection also sucked, 225/40 R17's arent cheap.

Wouldve kept the car if it wasnt for that.

For an econobox FWD is fine. But if youve got any power to play with its just a stupid decision. I couldnt understand why Ford made the XR5 Turbo FWD when Volvo's C30 is essentially the same car and it has an AWD version.

Yep Kelticks got it IMO.

I loved my little 323 1300cc Auto, no power to mess with you just a nice smooth ride that handled well around town.

Drove a Turbo civic a while back and almost messed myself everytime I put my foot down, broke traction, understeered, slid around corners at nowhere near excessive speed. Just a mess. Oh and torque steer.

Everybody loves torque steer.

Theres a reason Subaru only gave the 1800cc poo spec cars FWD. Im pretty sure they never made a turbo full time FWD (not counting the EA series) because they have a certain degree of sense.

I like FWD & AWD.

FWDs - are great fun if you know how to drive them.

AWDs - are just as fun. But, just seem like you're 'cheating' as they are so easy to handle.

So I like to drive both, but I'd prefer AWD as I like to head off the beaten track occasionally.

FWD & AWD with power.

Never driven any with power, but can only imagine a FWD with more power then a 1.8l corolla would be horrible to drive if you put your boot down.

And an AWD suby on the other hand would still feel like you're 'cheating', but you'd be going alot quicker..? haha

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
