Cat in Uppipe?

Hey team

 

Just removing the cats from my 02 SG Forester XT (1st of the SG Shape)

 

Have removed the cats from the downpipe and Mid pipe, but just wondering is there a cat also in the Up pipe?

Most cars only have 2

Anything pre turbo would kill exhaust pulses so unlikely one in up pipe.

Cheers that's what I thought, had a bit of a look but its pretty narrow so don't think there'd be one in there

dunno about anything on this side of the world but the US had a heap with uppipe cats. Only ever a single scroll thing but a major headache for them as they had a tendency to break down and kill turbos.

Wow that’s a horrid idea.

California does have some crazy emission rules.

That makes sense with all the research I found saying there was one in the up pipe were American forums

Yeah nah there's heaps with catted uppipes around. Loads of GDA/GGA WRXs had them AFAIK.

Part number is 44104FE010 and Forry XT of that era is listed as having one too.

Best bet is to find a stock STI uppipe of the same era, or I guess an older one would work fine too?

Interesting, when you put that part into Partsouq the price is $2132 so for that price it would have a cat in it, however when I put in the chassis number of my forester in and find the up pipe relating to it, its only $276 so that indicates to me that mine doesn't have a cat in the up pipe

There will be catted and uncatted variants depending on the destination market. If you're uncatted it will probably have a 2-letter prefix on the model code, probably TA- (and nowadays would be unable to import the car due to emissions laws), catted probably 3-letter prefix.
