um na you wont lose power, its closed unless your on full boost, as it needs to regulate the exhaust gases to stop overboosting and cooking the engine, just like a factory wastegate works. only difference is is doesnt get quietened through the exhaust/muffler system.

plumbed in or not it will still do the same job, just ones illegal and the others not

yeah seen tht one out west. Got a ewg setup off a gc8 wrx manifold and gate with 6-7psi spring...im curious to know!?but how do u make the gate open earlier??is it just a lotta boost or??

More boost would mean the gate would stay shut longer so that the turbo could actuallu spool up.

If you want it open earlier, just take the diaphragm out so then it opens at 0 psi.

the lower the spring pressure the sooner it will open

maybe if u find a 4 pound spring perhaps

or i dunno but maybe chop the 6psi spring to lower the open pressure (experiment will tell u the right thing)

or run no spring but thats pretty silly as will open anytime pretty much lol -

I never did get what the 'pound' refers to. Obiously its the pressure the spring will withhold before opening, but how does it relate to boost? i.e. a 6 pound spring doesn't mean 6 pounds of boost. So if you wanted, say, 18psi boost, what size spring do you need? Never bothered with externals but courious to know.

yep spring rate relates to the lowest amount of boost you can run..i'e 6psi spring will allow you to run 6psi but if you have a controller you can run 10psi for example

So a electronic boost controller can still happily work with a external?

alot of the springs i have used havent given me the pressure they were stated to produce, been a bit of trial and error really.
