Carbon fibre sheets of?
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:49:54 pm »
Hey does anyone know where one would purchase roughly 2 square metres of carbon fibre?

Doing (read: trying and probably failing) a bit of an art project but buggered if I know where to get raw sheets and resins etc.

Any help would be awesome.

Theres a few in the yellow pages. Fabrum's is one that I can remember off the top of my head. Also the main fibre/resin supply place is Nuplex Industries I think? There's a guy locally that build's kayak's aswell who had a supply of kevlar as well as carbon for a while too from memory.

Sweet thanks. One more thing: do you need to heat up fibre mat to stretch into crevasses? Little crevasses that is.
I have bitten off way too much with this project

If it is just for an art project, be sure to ask places (especially the boat builders) if they have any expired stock to get rid of.

Pre-preg carbon fiber has a limited shelf life, especially if it is not kept in a freezer.  Since many companies won't want to use the expired carbon in their products, and would otherwise have to throw it away, they might cut you a good deal on it.  :)
