Hi, failed my wof on turbo exhaust leak, possibly the gasket but more likely the down pipe?

would anyone be kind enough to give me tips on how I should go about doing this? im very tempted to try myself but I am aware the turbo manifold bolts are rusted an will break so basically wondering to those who have done this before what worked for you?

also anyone got a cheap down pipe for sale ? or cna anyone recommend one that won't break the bank an give good performance? I've got a decent chance here to do some turbo mods if anyone got any ideas?

yip, if you're in akl i have a siamese downpipe for 150. CRC is your friend. and some elbow grease.

Spray Penetrant will be a better friend than plain CRC 5.56

my opinion: 1. you are planning on removing/replacing downpipe.

2. might as well upgrade to a vf (guessing ur a non sti)

3. when the turbos off..up pipes visable therefore might as well get a set of headers

4. and since u've already spent around 700 might as well spend another 500 for sti ecu, yellows and afm

thanks for replies, will try some "Spray Penetrant " any particular brand you recommend? I was just going to use wd-40 but if theres something better for the job...

and lube or spray ?

I was watching some videos on youtube with people using blow torch an candle wax anyone tried that?

oh and its a 95sti V ltd engine so should have a td05? or td04? the only upgrade I would do would be an aftermarket ecu with boost up an fuel remap but frankly the engine would need a good tune up before I could attempt that

I don't know if headers would really make all that much different to the stock sti headers? well at least not enough to justify spending that much?

Was wanting to do the job on the cheaper side so I can get the wof , power wise more would be great but im happy with what I got

I think CRC make a spray penetrant. Wurth make a really good one called Rost Off Ice. Usually find Spray Penetrant's next to the 5.56 at the automotive shops.

use 'inox'.doesn't dry out or wash off either like 5.56 and seems to penatrate alot quicker than other similiar products i have used. inox has got me threw some pretty rusty situation with ease

So in the way of exhaust systems is there anything worth replacing at this point? I was thinking about headers an stuff but sti comes with decent exhaust system on v1-2 so im unsure what would be worth the money?

im only running what 9 or 12 psi? Was told the only realistic mod todo would be boost upgrade with the supporting mods IF my engine could handle it

a down pipe is the only real upgrade you will want to do at the same time as your turbo, just do you dont have to take it off again.
