Why do they advertise different power ratings for subarus?

I realise the heading is a bit ambiguous but why do they (by they i mean all the information on the internet etc rate most subarus as 280 hp (205kw) for instance a gt-b but then say that theoretically faster cars are less? am reading an advert for a limited 555 wrx (when they were new, so the factory stat.) that advertises its power as 155kw?

155kw sounds like it could be at the wheels where as 205kw is at the flywheel.

yup all factories advertise them like that (as new 206kw)

stick it on dyno you have 160 kw (on average)

An early GC8 WRX is around 155kw at the flywheel. They were only 165kw up until a year or two ago. All the STi Imprezas are listed at ~205kw at the flywheel from about Version 2 to Version 10.

Those guys are off course, it has nothing to do with flywheel vs. atw poower

NZ WRX were detuned from JDM with 155kW, 160kW on the last NZ GC8 WRXs.

If it was a factory advert for 155kW it was probably an NZ new WRX Limited like this

yeah my NZ new car only got 144kw atw when it was factory and 167kw atw with a vf22 at 13psi be interested to see what it does now without its boost leak

NZ New had longer gears?

I noticed that my JDM V4 has slightly longer gears than my BG5 GT (BG5 did 100kph @ 3,000rpm VS V4 JDM 110kph @ 3,000rpm).

My sti does about 3100rpm at 110kms in 6th

My BPE does about 2300rpm at 110kms but thats on an ez30r in 5th (automatic)

That is interesting about the revs on a six speeder at 100km/hr. I think the 5 speed in the R sits on about ~3200rpm at a true 100km/hr. Can't remember what the 5 speed in the GTB is doing at 100km/hr, but much lower than that.

auto or manual? If manual i call BS, as the 'longest' ctb/sti boxes sit smack on 3 grand at 100kms.

Sam - yer its still quite short, come for a smash some time. I though the R's and RAs were closer to 3400 at 110?.. oh yer you said 3200 at 100

the factory ez30 with 6speed i test drove was close to 3grand.

It felt CRAZY short round town as the ez30 is so torquey

I dunno if the BP5/BPE 6mts are the same ratio or what as the STI ones though.

Manual, I could be wrong, Pretty sure it was 2750. I will check tonight on my way home

my turbo doesn't spool to 3100rpm so i have to change down to fourth at 100 to get any turbo action unless i have load then i don't have to change down.

nah, std sti with 4.444 FD are way under 3000rpm @100km/h

My STi v6 on the std 205/50-16s was doing ~2750rpm @100km/h.

GC8 STi RA's are doing 3000+ at the same speed.

this was not my experience on TY754VBCAA 4.444 box on both my BG gtb (on factory rims) and my v3 STi (same box). I was circa 3000rpm
