Why lighten your flywheel when you can buy new rims?

Recommended Posts

So as far as rotating mass goes the lighter it is the faster it accelerates right?

So why spend big $ lightening your front pulley or flywheel on your Subaru when you could spend the same money and get super light rims?

weight savings will run at around 8-10 KG compared to scratching 4-6kg off your flywheel. ;D

Whats the deal? Why do so many people lighten their flywheel and then run 20" Chromes that weigh around 18kilos??!!

It just doesn't make sense to me???

a lightened flywheel can be had for 600 or less. wheels are more than 600 for a decent forged set.

so as far as cost goes, the flywheel is cheaper,

but the other side of the coin is size of wheels and tires, as this too effects acceleration.

oh, well i have an answer for that too, maybe he wants to rev it up really fast in his garage, but still be a home boy on the streets.

Surely you could have answered it with something more like this;

I kinda like doing them. Although they take a lot of knowledge of the subject and I generally always run out of time (in an exam) and end up with like 3 pages of scribble xD

I used to really enjoy doing them aswell. The ability to actually do it fades pretty quickly once you stop though. I've found that tutoring helps keep it alive in my brain when I get the chance.

i wuld be moar inclined to answer why lighten your flywheel at all - bit like a P-plate - be one of my last things to do on a car ever

(and yes i under stand WHY but not a good reason too etc)

momentum vs accelration is a tuff choice!

There is an improvement in throttle response (which can apparently help with turbo lag as well)... on the downside they can be a bit of a pain in the ass to drive around town - ie when was the last time you had to blip the revs to smooth out an UPshift?

Agreed about the stupidity of putting big heavy wheels on a car though.

How many members have lightened there flywheels and run on heavy chrome wheels?

Doubt if its many if any.

Most people would be looking for a performance gain and would be intelligent enough to realise the futility of such a combo.

The few who dont..dont matter..

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
