Tints failing W.O.F

Hey guys,

Looking for suggestions, my tints have passed their last 3 warrants flicking them through VTNZ...

Now upon returning to VTNZ for the lastest warrant, the pricks reckon their too dark!

I don't want to have to remove them, they cool the car down soo much!

They said they are 28%

But they were done professionally to 35%

Do tints get darker over time?

your car windows most likely have a slight factory tint as well which makes them darker than 35%.

yea they would have put a 35% film on top of glass which is 90 % VLT. so it would be 28%ish

I had the same prob with my 97 Type r, but they were factory tinted glass they wanted me to change, took like an hour to explain to the idiot that i couldnt peel the film off.

lol, my brother had the same problem with his honda, the guy then told him he must have put the tinted glass in cause that model didn't come with tinted glass

Had the same problem in CHCH, after arguing with the moron and said morons manager I grabbed the twat and dragged his face to the edge of the glass... pointing out the "colour" of the glass...

Needless to say havn't been back and probably not welcome back either

For factory tinted glass, there should be an "OK" sign stating it's factory. At least on my wrx anyways. Got pulled over by a cop wanting to find a fault with the tints. And when he saw the "OK" logo, he let it slip.

cant you get you car retested for wof not tints at another place like your local garage?

i got pulled over for having 35% tints and got made to pull them off and the cop said to me that if it was factory tinted glass that the car was made with it doesnt matter how dark it is they cant fail you on it. so i asked if i went and got windows that werent tinted from the factory that were under the 35% margin and put them in it would be ok, and the answer was yes

i dont get it i have 20% on factory tinted windows haha.

They were done @ pro tinters but by the previous owner (who has now left the country) so no idea who would have done them.

He was from New Plymouth.

You dont have to wait 30 days. I failed on being to loud in blen, 10 days later in christchurch i passed.

just have to find out what the tint percentage is on the factory glass then get the pros to put tint on that takes it to the 35% limit

take it to a machanical workshop.there usually abit more easy on the tints and exhaust,iv never had problms getting wofs fr tints i passed a wof in glen innes with a external wastegate.the guy didnt even know what it was lol

Yeah small mechanical workshops are the key.

VTNZ failed my GF's car for rear brake balance... we got it adjusted, took it back and they said it was worse, but the front was better? WTF...

Took it some place that doesn't have a w*nked out rolling road for brake balance... passed first go. Stupid...

i work with glass and as long as 70% of light can pass through the glass you will be sweet as.

i had a cop come and say my tints were to dark so i dragged him down to my work and pulled out the vlt test for cars and showed him that the light could pass through. this was with 30% tints on.

(VLT = Visible Light Transmission)

minimum amount of light legealy allowed to pass through you window is 70%

The 30 days is for a retest at no extra fee at the same testing station.

As mentioned on here before, you can go to another testing station and pay the fee again at anytime for another test...
