UPGRADING SIDE FEED INJECTORS

B4 2000

Recommended Posts

HEY GUYS, im in the look/market for new injectors for my EJ20K (V3/4 STi) engine which has the yellow side feeds.

what are my options for bigger injectors?? looking for (750cc-850cc ones)

i know that sard has 800cc side feed but is there spray pattern that good (they have 2 holes)

ideally i want to get the bosch 750cc as they have the best spray pattern i've seen so far but they are top feeds.

please don't just say get this or that, i want reasons for why i would get this or that. Also experiences would be good.

THANKS

Abdul, i run the sard 800's in mine. I think your familiar with my build and it goes really well. While im well within the capacity of the 800's if i meddle in E85 at any point they will max fairly quickly.

I think you can get IDC in huge CC ratings that have epic spray patterns plus really good idle so perhaps look into those.

Note sards also need colars which are $$$

Sorry i cant help with the spray pattern as i don't know.

Funky, ya familiar with your build and spent bout an hour last night on your build's thread as I'm hoping for similar numbers to yours. So from your experience you recommend the sard??, I've looked into them and they would cost me $1000 give or take a bit for both injectors and collars.

what abt them?

Yes thought bout that, but how reliable are deccapped injectors???

Also, what do I need to go from side feed to top feed? Rails only??

from what i have heard from the members who have done it here is that yea rails are the only things needed

can someone confirm

as for decapped injectors perhaps some ppl who have used that can comment more

i know some ppl who have used the decapped pink in a non ej lol and works mint but perhaps some suby person can confirm better

yer that pricing is about right :) Shred in wellington can get them for you for a little cheaper if you want me to ask.

I've had no issue with them what so ever, for the power im running, or at idle. That said i have no proof or scientific data on what the spray pattern is doing.

car goes fast and has plenty of fuel with no issues is as technical as i can give you.

On a side note - the walbro is nearing the end of its legs in terms of what it can supply at my power. I need a Bosch 040 (i think thats the larger of the two 040 044) to pump to the engine from a surge tank - and the walbro to supply the surge tank. (the walbro copes fine if it doesn't have huge pressure)

What about de capped ver 5-6 yellows ? Would go straight into your rails etc as theyr side fed like you wanted . . Some for sale on here which were tested on a flow bench at 3 bar and pulled 870cc I believe it was . . . . Cheap option if that some thing you would be interested in ? I havent ran de capped injectors so I cant comment on them but I would like to hear as im looking into running de capped yellows in the near future

They don't fit straight into my rails, I'll need the V5/6 rails and make brackets for them but if I'm getting deccapped injectors then I'll go for pinks cause of better spray pattern

Thanks funky, from googling it seems ppl are generally happy with the sards. Ya I'm running walbro as well so hope it's enough, don't have surge tank tho

neither at the mo but it seems happy enough at all map points.

i dont think it will last forever though - i bet its working hard at the top of the rev range.

I will be surge tanking this year and sticking in a bigger pump supplying the engine. nothing like leaning out an engine - i've seen two engines suffer lean out - and i REALLY dont want that.

True that, as you'll be using your car for track days mainly but for mine, don't really need it as it's my daily and I'm a nana driver 95% of the time (heck, car hasn't seen full boost bout 2 weeks -bout 15psi-)

mainly because if you had a ver 7 you would need a re tune on the ecu or on something earlier you would need a link or something to be able to control the injectors being so big

don't really know the answer but i'd love to know as well, as they would be a cheaper option

oh and as WRXONP said, you need to either re-tune your ECU or get an ECU of some sort to get the best outta them.

reliability is unchanged

decapped top feeds have a decent spray pattern

decapped side feeds have a rubbish spray pattern, in fact they dont even have a spray pattern

both will work but economy is bad for the latter

Have seen decaped inj on other motors with no issues at all

I think suby Ppl R perhaps not too keen on retuning lol

But yea I suppose the principle is the same for decaped inj regardless of motor and on the ones I seen may have been non suby but they work very well

In that light I Wud say that it should be sweet for Subaru motors

One downside I have heard is thT spray pattern is change but I really don't think it affects much unless u start dining them close to max

Seems the sti pinks have no issues with spray pattern as that's the one I seen Being used

Hmm 880cc maxing out be Quiet a massive power curve lol

I'm sure there are some suby Ppl here that can give their experience on their use of decapped units

Guys ive used de caped V5/V6 and de caped pinks they run fine up 2 330kw on 98oct.

V5/V6 do fit into V3/V4 rails but u need the top hats and need bigger O rings and they good to go best cheapest option ive got a set for sale if u guys are keen ive gone to 1200cc i dnt need them anymore and a mate of mine had them tested at 4bar they ran something crazy like 1380cc open at 100% but i know people rate them at 850cc.

and dnt forget that the pinkys are top feed if you thinking of going that way.

if u de cap them u need to go for a tune maybe a aftermarket fuel reg and most people dont need that much fuel V5/V6 stock with a aftermarket fuel reg can pump out around 550cc thats more then u need to run 200 230kw and u dont really want to run any more on the factory internals but if u got a worked motor then am sure u wouldnt mine going that much bigger - so its not for ur every day driver to go decap for no need :)

R8TD_R, I've got the whole lot, aftermarket regulator/fuel pump, forged motor, big turbo, FMIC, twisted, link G4, etc. Pretty much Only the bigger injectors I'm missing which hoping to make 280+ kw atw. I want to get the best and not the chaepest.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
