watched it on streetfire yesterday and I am thinking of getting the bmw 1m as the family car. Awsome car that one will require both wages to afford it. It's pretty awsome I don't miss out on topgear it was one of the things I was worried about when moving over to nz.

Amen to that, the latest Top Gear (UK) mag has a test with new 1M against the RS3, the Audi cracks a 3.8sec 0-60 with launch control!

they still say the 1m is more fun though.

Problem with the RS3 is they don't make it in manual. Same problem with the RS5. I think for the that reason along I would save myself 40k and get a used RS4 and get STM to fit their supercharger kit which takes power to 560kw

Have you driven a car with a DSG gearbox? I've driven a lot, and I just sold my v7 sti and my new car will have a dsg box. So much faster, smoother and more precise. I cant see myself going back to a manual anytime soon, unless I buy a track car.

Can't speak for other dual-clutchers but DSG is great 99% of the time.

It's one major operational failure is that it doesn't allow full manual control, they will always change up within sniffing distance of the redline.

Other drawbacks; higher maintenance costs, complexity and weight.

On the plus side they are very reliable now, good enough for VW to use them on their Nurburgring 24-hr racers.

My next car will probably have a DSG box too.
