Insurance Thread 2.0

So I just got off the phone with NAC and want to scoop eyeballs out of their sockets. I'm about to put a whole slew of bits onto the Impreza, and I just got a mega attitude for it (no, they weren't judging the model, so leave it be trolls). Basically told me to stuff off - despite the fact that this is their specialty. Apparently I'm meant to do the work first, then get it professionally valued - nice, with several grand of gear waiting to be stolen in the meantime!

Thoroughly unimpressed with them! Only staying if there's no other option.

So, suggestions ClubSUB...pretty please! The car is gonna be heavily modified shortly, not least of all the new brakes. Anyone had good/bad experiences with other companies...which accept that cars can and will be modified?

Cheers in advance :)

(Also: this is an appropriate thread to talk about GPS tracking systems, Snitch, any security features...as that looks to be my only salvation at this point -_____-)

duno if this helps ya but im with State Insurance and i have $3000 of extra mods listed and they didnt seem worried bout it at all. my car does have gps tracking as the finance company im with does this as standard but unfortunately doesnt help bring my premiums down, but at $800 a year for a modified turbo subaru im not complaining.

i wouldnt go near nac i got a quote from them when i was looking at who to go with and i think they wanted about 2grand for exactly what i have with State.

Thats pretty normal if doing a big modification project that is "likely" worth more than the car itself.

They aren't going to take your word that it has a 3k Gearbox and 1500 of brakes plus whatever else your throwing at it until it has been verified etc.

TBH i think NAC is still your best bet.

I pay 540PA for my STi with Coilovers, rims and ECU all insured separetly to be replaced in event of theft.

Try paying $2500 per year... and needing 2 policys!! - then tell me your hard done by!!

NAC is the only company that will insure my foz... a rip off but better than no insurance at all...

The mod's i have insured are so extensive its even got its aftermarket wheel nuts on there...

to see the sorts of things on my mods list check here: http://www.cmplsv.com/node/2

Well im sorry to say, but this is an expensive passtime you engage in, it comes with considerable cost.

This is half the reason im leaving my car fairly standard...

BTW becca, recon darkside can modify old bodykits? Thinking bout getting a quote to shorten my TK front bumper and strengthen the other bits too

Turtle - Don't worry I think you're right :)

I'm just f**ked off at their bad attitude right now, basically it's implied that it doesn't matter what I put into it...I'll still basically get $7k in the hand if I'm lucky. Maybe the cow was PMSing or something. Lmao.

Sounds like it may be worth throwing more security at the car, because insurance isn't going to be helpful if it walks again.

Joker - the car is insured currently for $13k, and when the gearbox and breaks go in...that's over $25k of EXTRAS alone that have gone into it. I wouldn't expect even $20k for it total, even in that state... but if a thief were to sell my box and brakes alone, they would get back more from that than I would from insurance for the WHOLE car.

Becca - I may just have to bite the bullet and do the work, then get it valued. Cuz it's a similar situation eh...

I'm getting quotes from other places right now. Vero has offered to cook up something custom (and rather pricy), knowing I'm extremely unhappy with NAC's products and service right now...

Daleson - the reason I'm being overly paranoid and b!tchy about it (and yes, I know that's exactly what I'm doing :(...) is because this car HAS been stolen before, and it HAS been nearly written off before.

Im sure they could :)

not sure how to contact them tho... maybe PM JWDRPN on the forums he got the kit done there before i owned the car so he might have the guys details.....

otherwise GT REFINISHERS (the panelbeater i use) is the shit too!! - altho he specialises in steel wide bodies and show cars now but im sure he can get your kit sorted in no time!!

.... p.s shale - CLICK car insurance was even more expensive than NAC for my car

Clic was 200 cheaper over NAC for mine.

Was insured with NAC with everything listed and it was 1600, Clic is 1400 and includes everything, plus the rollcage, seats, harnesses, camera, laptimer, steeringwheel.

Oh and the excess is lower too.

Fair enough!, i too have been stung by those thieving pricks, and i got owned by my insurance because i apparrntly didnt tell them about some mods that were done..... which in fact were the reason i got insurance!!

Nothing got paid out and im still paying that fkn skyline off. so now its plain stock for me... for now.

Stink Daleson :( That's what I feared would happen to mine when he got stolen. And crashed into. I swear I have no tears left to cry... :(

I'll try Clic anyway, thanks for the lead there Jase and Becca :) If it's more secure than NAC...I'm in, regardless of cost.

My 2 Mountain bikes cost more to insure than my two cars do, fully comp!

Just wait till insurance is compulsory then just about anyone under twenty five will struggle to legally own an unmodified car with a turbo.

I've heard good things about NAC tho.

shale, another thing to try is get all your insurance through one company,

With ASB i have Loan insurance, health insurance and car insurance... if i get contents with ASB i get a big discount on the whole lot....

I got my car when i was 23, and i was paying hmmm $80 per fortnight.. then again cars only insured for the amount i paid which is about 5k :)

It's weird, but it sounds a lot like you never knew modding your car doesn't increase the value.

You just have to face facts and keep it in mind when spending your money. If the money spent is

worth it to you in perfomance increase or bling increase or whatever, then do it, otherwise don't...

but please don't make out like you are investing money in a house or something and therefore

being ripped off by the insurance companies.

i dont see anyone making out like that... and im sorry but i do feel ripped off by NAC - $2500 a year is recidulous!!

If you dont have constructive things to say - do us all a favour and dont waste oxygen.

wow.. snappy.

I think the assumption was made as most of you guys are early 20's, back then i thought puting 3k mags and a phat front mount was gonna make my starlet worth 15grand, but no.

and typing takes oxygen?

Like I said. I don't expect the $35k back I've spent if in ANOTHER emergency - but I DO want reasonable replacement value should my (frankly, HUSBAND) go missing or be destroyed. I don't want to go from driving a reasonable Subaru to being stuck with a rickety old HX - keep in mind mine was absolutely mint when I got it, and super duper downgrading is not part of my plans if sh!t hits the fan.

So stop pointing fingers ;)

All I'm saying is, be realistic. It is a car that as you know can go missing at any time, or be destroyed at anytime... and it is also a

very common mass produced pile of metal, plastic and rubber that has no real intrinsic value.

If money is easily come by for you, then go ahead and spend it, just stop imagining you are doing anything other than throwing it away.

There is no investment being made, it is a hobby and an expensive one, and nothing more.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
