Unknown Power

Recommended Posts

Hi there guys!

So my dad gave me his speaker box with two subs in it, it has been sitting in the shed for about 4 years.

I was wondering how much power the subs had, but I looked on the outside and there was no sign of it. I thought of finding it on the inside, so I opened it up and had a look but had no luck.

Was wondering how can I go about finding out the power of the subs?

Measure the speaker resistance with a multi-meter. If they are 8-ohms, or thereabouts they will be house speakers! And not really practical for car use.

I'd consider 100W RMS power handling. Some 6.5" component speakers have larger magnets & voice coils.

i started with house speakers in the back of a honda, hooked up to present a 4 ohm load to a crappy headunit. My point is, you need to start somewhere. Given the depth of the speakers, you could possibly box them indevidually, in custom built boxes so they sit behind the drivers and passengers seat. Easy to move when you have passengers, and audable when cruising by yourself. Yeah, they may be old, and small, but my god, they are better than nothing, and FREE!!!

Do you have a pass through section in the rear seat? Allowing you to access your boot? If you do, i'd open that, chuck them in the boot, bolt them down and call it a starting point...

Oh haha. Yeah you do start somewhere, and then you learn. =P

That sounds really good! Thanks for the advice. =]

just put whatever amp u can find and low pass them on

crank it to just below they start clipping

lol

enjoy

save up for better units in the meantime

i say some bass is better than no bass lol

i once has crappy warehouse subs lol reactor paper ones. was ok for just some sounds and bass and worked ok till i got some more decent units

so yea - just use them for the interim basis and u never know - they might be fine for ur liking ..and if not at least they are better than having nothing...

actually paper cones can give better performance in some cases as boon has pointed out my soundstream rubicons are paper as well so where my DLS 12s where as the cheaPER brands use polycarbonate and the like on cheaper models think sony and low end fusion power out with whatever you have even over power em if your able to better to run more power than not enough might surprise yourself with the end result free s*** equals good s*** 9 times out of 10 if you blow em no big loss

oh not saying paper is bad

just saying reactor is bad

i bet the paper they use is low quality stuff too

anyway, i still say some bass is better than no bass while saving up for better bass lol

if that makes sense

more like motivation to get ssaving harder with the crappy bass lol

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
