non spinning turbo

ok i have a vf30 that didnt seem to boost right

upon taking out ans checking found that u can turn the front compressor wheel independant of the rear wheel

yep.. u can spin the front wheel and if u put ur finger on the rear wheel it wont spin with the front wheel

same for doung rear to front

if u dont try and stop either end then they do seem to spin together

when spinning the rear wheel, there is a grind noise every so often..like a bit of metal against metsl..

the wheels on the turbo have zero shaft play in any direction.. seriously as if its brand new with no movement in play...

the blades are in very mint nick and none is touching the housing at all

what are ur thoughts..

could be a loose compressor nut !! either way needs strip and check at a minimum, and more than likely replacement of a few parts

spoke to you about this last week, and the grinding etc

Told you to send it or take it to a Turbo specialist, yet your still mucking around asking Q's

Is it that I said overhaul will cost you around $700 or more depending on what has happened to it

Pappu - time to spend $$, stop being a tight ass and wasting time - esp mine !

of course i'm angry - he calls me while i'm in the middle of a huge concrete pour on site

I make time for him, and now find out he was just wasting my time

As you messaged me a few weeks ago WRXONP- he's very confused, and indian

Note the Turbine wheel IS the shaft !! so no point back cutting and then fitting a new shaft

sorry ichi ..not meant to question ur skills bro..

just that the turbo is lying on the floor and every day i see it i get more curious..

like a cat in front of a ball of string..

lol

just asking around to see if i can do a DIY on it... more for the learning and curiosity side of things than anything else really..

not sure if wana spent a lot on a rebuild and that ball of string keeps getting more and more tempting..

all them ppl on youube seem to rebuild t3/t4 and other non vf turbos lol..

ah well..im sure everyone at some point wud have been confused/curious abt some car stuff and contemplated a diy..

u never learn/discover new things if u dont ask/try..

weather they then did it diy or gotten a pro wud be based on the answers to the questions they wud have asked..

thats how i have done things anyway

Anyone one with half a clue wouldnt be showing how to rebuild a turbo like im sure Rick wouldnt be showing how he builds top engines, not good for business nor your reputation as like teaching how to tune not a smart idea little know how leads to great heartache and shitty customers.

A 10min youtube video cant pass on many years of knowledge youtube is all about getting 15mins of fame without doing the hard yards.

fully agree steve.. i was just asking here cos didnt find much on vf rebuilds on utube and to be honest damm curiosity is getting the better of me every time i walk past the turbo on the floor.. :P

hahah keep thinking how does it look inside..how come zero play and yet not running etc etc... :-[

PS.

ur rebuilt td05/06 on my old rex still rates as the best thrill i have had in all the different rexes ive driven.

way better than a "supposed" better rated t3/t4 my brother in law had on his rex at the same time hahaha

Chinese t3t4 exhaust housing and Wheel are way huge for a 2 litre suby . . massive lag . .

have seen a guy "Rebuild" A Chinese turbo diy styles . . he thought lining the nuts and wheels back up with marks would keep it roughly balanced . . . roughly isn't good enough it lunched it self in a matter of moments . . .

sort of like saying i will skim my brake rotors with a grinder . . . rough isn't good enough when your talking balancing

yea i think that maybe the go.. sell it and put towards a bigger turbo :)

that i likes more!!!!

never opened a turbo before hence was all curious... :P

and bf5gt90 - the t3t4 was on a v4, tuned with a powerfc and fmic and external running yellws and sti afm and gizzmo ebc

was laggy but did pull a 12.7 1/4 mile so not too shabby..

just dam laggy lol

update:

thanks to ichiban found the issue

the nut on top of the compressor wheel was loose!!

well thanks to teznu as well who had eagle eyes to spot the loose nut (i had not even looked at turbo that hard)

anyway he just rolled the nut off the thread - that was sooo dam loose

will get the turbo to turbo specialist and get it checked and refurb and rebalanced

teznu thinks it was just the loose and no other serious damage but hopefully turbo specialist can check and sort what needs sorting...

lucky i didnt try open it up or wud have possibly ruined a good turbo hehe :-[

hmmm it was sitting at the mechanics for a while then my brothers room and now in my garage..

hopefuly turbo guy can see and update whats the issue/outcome..

now that u mention it, yea why wud it come off on its own ??

its not a commont thing/fault somehow?

wudnt get twin scroll as love the rumble too much..

heheh remember we even took off my equal length headers and put the stock ones cos i wanted rumble and not honda lol..

it was the blue one before (the night incedent up the road car lol)

thanks for the update steve.. since its not common - i will hopefully get an answer from the turbo guy once they see more of it..

hmm will running with super tight bov for a while do that - as in lots of comp surge on normal driving and only venting in high psi and nothing even in medium psi.. pretty much no bov type sceneario in low/med boost.......

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.
