Clutch squeaks when clutch pedal is in, worse on 1st start!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

I have a 99 be legacy b4 5mt

When i first start the car in the morning with the clutch in i get a sqeaking noise and as soon as i let the pedal out it stops. It does it when the car is warm too but much quieter.

Only happens when the car is running. Tell me its not the T.O.B :S

Possibly what is called the throw out bearing - part of the clutch and clutch assembly, maybe pressure plate but throw out bearing is typically first thing to go or get noisy. Generally have to replace whole clutch then.

OP. it could also be spigot bearing thats a bit worn - how old is the clutch?

(its not just the pedal thats squeeky? ;D )

not really unless its nackerd, but it is a good time to replace it. if you need a bearing i have a spare new one..... for some reason the clutch i purchased last week had 2 new ones in the box :D

Damn lol i guess it sounds like a case of the throw out bearing. The cars done 150k and not too sure but wouldnt be suprised if its the factory clutch.

Is the throw out bearing the same as the release bearing?

Def not the pedal, pedals nice and quiet.

What a pain, 1st B4 got stolen after a week and now this ones nothing but problems haha.

Anyone have any reccomendations on a replacement clutch kit? The clutch itself feels fine but seeing as im gonna have to pull it to bits…

you can probably reuse the pressure plate if you think its clamping enough, around $650 gets you a new exedy (factory option) clutch, then labour to install it.

Im not sure if the kit come with the two bearings or not, if not BNT sells them for about $90 for the release or T.O.B and $30 for the spigot. Remember to get your flywheel machined at the same time :)

If your unsure how to do it - and in wellies i could do a cashy for you.

would not reuse even if it has a good clamping force as the face of the pressure plate will be buggered, but other than that yup,

Must also agree with getting the flywheel machined as you would be a fool not to :)

also new rear Main Seal and reseal the kidney plate while you in there

always replace the whole clutch and get the flywheel surfaced to get the best result.

Autoclutch in auck will reset your pressure plate, match up a clutch plate to suit and resurface the flywheel,.also supply you with a new release bearing and spigot bearing for around $650-$700.

Wasted my time with BNT.Could recommend factory OEM replacement from winger too...However it will be around a grand probably.

i just got this kit last week

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/subaru/clutches/auction-403345412.htm

they need to clear stock apparently and you dont get the 20% pressure plate as there kits got mixed up and they have the 40% extra clamp force plates for the same price ;D

the kit is only missing the spigot bearing but there cheep anyways.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
