IAT Sensor location

I'm about to chuck a Link G4 in my car and I'm going to add an IAT sensor...

Link says to install it as close to the throttle body as possible, but that on the manifold itself is not ideal due to heat soak.

I'm running a TMIC so I can't really just put a hole in the intake piping. Where do you guys reckon I should chuck the IAT sensor?

I'll be tapping into the AFM's IAT wiring if that makes any difference.

hmm mostly we run them (with FMIC's) in the alloy piping 6-12inches back behind the t/b

tapping into your TMIC isnt ideal - if you could fab up something to not leak using the silicon between TMIC and T/b would be best?

ive seen them tapped into the intake pipe on trademe/net pre turbo is that way off or something different?

link sell bosses for them you weld in with the thread in them. i bought the sensor from elsewhere and just get engineer to make something up. the sensors are gm just like the map sensors.

in both my cars, its been tapped into the factory intercoolers near the TB outlet

you can just see the brass thing left of the TB (drivers side)

One was done by dtech, other was previous owner

mine is mounted in my tmic next to the throttle body, just had a thread welded onto the tmic and a hole drilled.

The only thing that puts me off doing that is it's a Process West TMIC and it cost f*cking moonbeans.

Tap it into the intake manifold and use phenolic spacers between the heads and manifold? they take pretty much all the heat out of the manifold so you should get reasonably accurate readings.

Air flow meter? However the afm on later (all?) models does have an IAT sensor attached to it.

The guy who developed the carberry rom (the one mattapo is using, afaik?) uses an IAT sensor in that stock location and had no problems tuning (although technically it's not ideal)

not afm. look just like iat two wire. i cant find a pic but ive definitely seen them there on turbo cars. doesnt make sense though when you think about it.

It would work but if you got heaksoak with the tmic your tune would be out the window as air intake temp correction would only take into account ambient temps not your post intercooler temps

the whole point of the IAT is to correct post turbo + i/c intake temps,

turbo heats it and and IC reduces temp - like stoffa said put it in the right position or dont bother.

Boon - you could tap your i/c near the throttle body and plug it if you ever sold it? IF you think about it its a performance upgrade i/c anyway so people that might use it after you might also want it, you could market it as already ready to accept IAT sensor?

I think I'm gonna look into getting about 1" of alloy pipe with swaged ends and a bung then I'll cut the little silicon joiner between the IC and TB in half and put it there?

will there be any remove for sender once hose clamps are involved?

Latest revised plan is to get a very short length of intercooler piping and put it inside the joiner between the throttle body and the intercooler, then tap that (maybe weld on a small nut if required) and pop the IAT in there...

does having it pre/post bov effect the way it reads? just seen funkys is pre bov...

I doubt it, as long as it's post intercooler.

I just had a G4 installed and my IAT sensor was welded to the underside of the TMIC. It is a larger A/M unit so more room to weld and we used the link weld-in boss. Works all good!

what did you end up doing with your IAT....yes I'm stalking your threads as thinking about getting the same intercooler.

Anychance of some engine bay pics, Im running a v8 manifold so hoping it'll go in without too much drama

Drilled and tapped the underside of the BOV mount bit... being PW it was like 5mm alloy so no problems... except we did it in exactly the wrong spot so that the sensor hit a little lug on the manifold which we then had to take to with an air-saw.

Could get some pics for you early this week.
