imfomation on impreza turbo upgrade on gc8

Recommended Posts

A stock sti would dyno at about 175wkw so 220wkw would be a massive gain on the bum dyno, with most sti's anything over and above 220-230kw becomes a much bigger investment.

220wkw is alot of fun and will see you reaching 100kph in sub 5 seconds and getting from 100-135km in 2.8sec (According to my datalog on V7 sti).

hang on a minute, u saying a tune could potentially get me 45Wkw? if thats true then WOW:o . i've been reading it all wrong lol, not very used to kw or wkw. more of a hp person :). but again like i said will see the figures this saturday. ;D

Flywheel power is higher as no drivetrain loss comes into play...206kw fw and 175kw atw shows you the difference. I think its estimated at roughly 25% drivetrain loss. A tune is the best thing you can do for any car value for money IMO. Go in a tuned car you will see the difference. You can get gains out of a factory car and as soon as you do mods your tune goes out of wack and sometimes for the worse. Throw a bigger turbo on you may notice a slight increase in power say 5kw then tune it for an extra 20-25kw over your whole rev range. You need to tune when you change your setup. In saying that mine isnt yet but as soon as I can I am.

lol yep thats me. i was talking to the guy at spec performance, he said i could get a fuel controller then get a tune to lean it out. i could be looking at 20-30% better fuel economy and maybe about 15-20kw in power?? i would be looking at around $500 for controller and maybe $400 for tune. if thats the case. it does seem a lot cheaper then getting a retune by nzefi for like $1400.

just thought i would also add. there was a v7 sti there, stock standard on 18psi. dynoed at 160kw atw! ::)

Id says you'd be better spending slightly more for NZEFI to tune it as that way you can smooth out/alter ignition timing and boost tables as well, but can't say I have any experience with a piggy back fuel controller so can't really comment. Interesting about the stock v7 sti though! although they do pull alot of timing out of the tune once they start running on New Zealand fuel.

Edit: Also stock boost is meant to taper to 12psi at redline!

Having driven a v8 sti on standard tune then custom tune was a massive difference... Standard tune was "damn thats quick", custom tune at 23psi, fully customised timing, fuelling, wastegate, ignition and avcs maps, only made 200kw atw, but that thing was savage.

I guess what i'm saying, is go for the nzefi tune, you can lean out the fuelling on the standard ecu with no need for a piggyback, and you can often get the boost to sit quite a bit more solid.

Yeah that's my mates v7 sti. Running rich as too which might explain the low (is it low??) figure. He also said it's only boosting 15psi.

Totally wrong guy then! My friend has a V7 STi sedan, blue with massive rims.

oh yes that, i saw it parked across the road from spec. (you ccould almost see those rims from space :o). dont think it went on the dyno tho.

It did, saw the video and it did 164kw.

I'm also very interested to hear how the NZEFI tune goes Whatchain if you go that way.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
