anyone weighed the removed metal?

It becomes significant only once you weigh up all the various brackets etc that you remove. In isolation it all seems horribly complicated for bugger all gain and I always question the need for removing this type of stuff when asked to do it. But it all helps if you\'re going for light weight. Another painful job is stripping all the excess wires out of the loom. Or even more fun is re-looming with lighter weight wires.....

God I bet that\'s a mission replacing loom with lightweight wire, how much would that save?

Bugger all. Although the last car I helped build we managed to get down to a few kgs over the minimum class weight. The aim was to try to have to add ballast but we couldn\'t find the last few kgs without it costing lots of money and even more time.

Then they go out and drive them through a muddy stage and pick up half a tonne of mud which completely negates all those late nights spend with a grinder and a spot weld drill ;D

Just cut them out I did, however I do have cage instead wouldn\'t do it f car is being used on road with no cage.

Yeah same here, I\'m finally getting around to gutting the doors in the race car. so the consensus is "slowly slowly catchy monkey" with and angle grinder to get the bars out?

I weighed the rear window winders and the inside sheet of the door and its just over 2kg per door, if the side intrusion weighs 800gm or so it\'ll make the weight loss about 3 kg per door!

Don\'t. It will turn your doors into floppy useless s***.
